I wore mine for the first time on Sunday. I fell in some deep sand and my foot was pinned under the exhaust pipe. The boot kept the pipe from digging into my foot. It took a minute for my buddy to get the bike off of me and I could smell the leather burning. My foot was fine and the heat never reached my skin. Even after being burned a little they are in great shape.

1:52 pretty much speaks for itself. These have zero protection from an ankle break and I’ve heard from a seasoned ADV off-road instructor that every ankle break he’d seen was from riders wearing these boots. People love these because of comfort and relative price comparison. Just make sure you’re willing to accept the risk. I personally opt for the Sidi Adventure boots. They’re the most expensive pair of footwear I’ve ever bought, but you truly get what you pay for. They’re also very comfortable for the incredible level of protection they offer. Again, it’s your risk; they’re your ankles.

Great review tim, glad to see you back! I Have the low boot and wear them many days while I’m working, not riding. During the snow and ice they gave me great traction, waterproof, and support. Twisted a ankle and couldn’t walk in hiking boots. That’s when I first realized these were great for everyday work and hiking boots. I ride 85% pavement and the low boots are fine for me. Off road I stick to dirt gravel roads and they perform well. Two years of content wear and they are still holding together. Velcro material for closure on top was pulling away from the leather and I glued it back into place with Elmers glue.

I have this boot. I've been riding for 50 years and spent many years racing enduro. I've owned many motocross boots over the years and can say these boots are a great compromise. I wore them all day for almost a month while riding the Utah BDR solo and side trips in Colorado. Tims 40,000 miles is a lot for any footwear. It will take most people a long time to equal that amount of time in the boot. So comfortable and protective I never thought about my feet while riding or even hiking. Good to see you Tim !!

The review is spot on! I have had these boots for over a year.I started with dual sport riding , but switched mainly to enduro style riding, roots, rocks, mud ,and sand trails, in New England. They have taken a beating (thanks to me). And have held up very well and have given satisfactory protection from falls and object strikes.Not a full motocross boot, but they are comfortable and break in quickly. I hiked Mt. Monadnock NH. in them. A steep trail(white dot), and was surprised at how well they did, although a bit heavy for that task. I would recommend these.

I have these boots in both the tall and low versions and agree with all your points. The only issue I had with them was on very hot humid days where I was doing a lot of work picking up the bike and sweating hard...the boots literally became water filled buckets from my sweat...waterproof, and not very breathable. I literally poured out a quarter pint or more of liquid sweat out of each boot when I took them off and they squelched all day and the next as a result.

Hey Tim I love my forma boots .. they are fantastic boots for the price point .. I do run the short version with my Africa twin..and my dirt bikes .. they are so comfortable I can walk around all day with them .. hike.. ride.. waterproofing is great . Hands down best boots I have ever had.. I have gotten top level boots that I paid 500.00 to 600.00 and fail .. broken buckles..soles coming off.. leaking.. most are made in China now ... and are junk.. forma boots aren’t made in China junk.. that I love.. I have 2 yrs on mine and are still in great shape after many hrs of use in mud ..water.. dirt ..and snow. I love them and I have recommended them also ..I will hands down purchase them again! Great review honest opinion of a quality product.. thanks for all your work you do with your channel ..your such and inspiration for many people including myself.. I have purchased a lot of the products you tried out and I don’t regret a single purchase... your hands down my favorite channel thank you again and ride on my friend !

Hey Tim, great review. I actually have these boots as well. They were great for my xr650l but for anything heavier like my t7 It's dangerous. I admit I loved these boots for the past 9months however I was riding down a fire road on my t7 and seen something jump in the bushes out of the corner of my eye and in that split second I had my eye off the road I hit the only rock in the road lol. It knocked me into a soft patch of dirt and I washed out And broke my leg pretty bad. I was on a solo overnighter. I had to learn my lesson with these boots the hard way. I guess what I'm trying to get at Is you can have an accident anywhere whether it be An object or gravel on the Pavement, a car or animal jumping out in front of you or a simple wash out on a fire road. Although these boots look nice and are comfortable to walk around in and hang out in. When it comes down to it They are dangerous because they don't have the ankle protection and shin protection you need. I will continue to use these boots for my lighter weight bikesAs I feel they have enough protection for my 250R, And maybe my XR650L. But I am back in the market for a better protected boot. I'm looking into the Gaerne SG-10 or the Gaerne Dakar as they are another like the forma but with more anke support and protection. One I make it out of bed I'm going boot shopping lol. Bed sores hurt more than broken leg. Thanks for the good reviews you do. Cheers

I've had mine for 4 years now and still love them. I have wide feet and they fit great. After I threw away the 99 cent insoles and replaced them with some $29 sport gel ones they feel like good sneakers. Super comfortable, look great, good protection for typical ADV riding, still waterproof and I bought mine for $200 shipped free from Italy. I'm one of those obsessed with getting the most for the least and these boots won me over.

They fit wide feet really well. I wear Euro 49, UK 13. fit like a glove. Managed to hit a warthog at 120 kph and broke my big toe properly on day 3 of 43. Slipped the boots on everyday and carried on in comfort through rain, dirt or shine. This is the benchmark boot for doing African terrain.

The low version of this boot is fine for adventure riding, when combined with knee guards. That way you still get shin protection from the knee guard, with the extra benefit of knee protection as well. Then after removing the knee guard, it's better for walking around or hiking, in a more comfortable low cut pair of boots during an adventure. Thanks for your excellent review.
@Turco949
@Turco949 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing right before I saw your comment. I am in the market and since I do ride almost all pavement, I figured the low version would suit me just fine and if I ever need the extra protection of the high version of these boots, I could just put on shin/knee guards. Keeping them separate would allow easy on/off alas something I'd not be able to do with the high-cut version.

Great review!! I've loved mine for 4 years and 35,000 miles on and offroad, water crossings, below freezing and above 100f. I will buy the same if these ever wear out. Strangely, I don't think my feet have ever been too hot or cold or even uncomfortable. I did give them a coat of Sno Seal about 2 years in and they remain waterproof (It only made them look better). Tim great review as always. I was really considering these particular boots but ultimately, I decided on that the increased protection offered by an MX boot is worth it. I went with the O'neil Element and while they are not meant for walking around camp, they provide great protection against twisting and crushing which was my priority. I am so glad to see you making videos again. I hope all is well. Thank you Nathan

I bought these, the TCX Drifter and the Gaerne G All Terrain boots. Both the Forma and the TCX had a toe box that was too tall to shift my Street Scrambler. I know the bike you're on has more room in that area then my Triumph... The G boots have a shorter toe box and are more flexible... Over the last 3 days, I went about 800 miles with them and they were amazing.

My two cents: These are the first adventure boots I have bought, got them last year for the CDT. Put 900 trail miles and 1750 road miles on them. Pro: The comfort and fit, especially for my wide feet is great right out of the box, look great and I really like these boots. Con: The lateral ankle support is lacking for me. Tweaked my ankle in a minor washout in the sand and then severely sprained it a few days later in a hard fall and had to abort the ride. I am not anxious to repeat the months of recovery. I am currently looking for a boot with more ankle protection without giving up too much off bike comfort. I will continue to enjoy these boots for less demanding riding.

I’ve had a pair of these for four years and have just bought another pair. The waterproofing went as well about four months ago but saying that they’ve had a hard time. I was going to go for terra evos but was told by the rep that the adventure is far more comfortable if you’re going to wear them all day every day. The heal protection isn’t good ( those who ride off road with hard panniers take note) but it’s been a really great boot hence buying another pair.

Thank you for this informative review, I bought these boots partially because of it. So far I completely agree with your assessment, particularly how comfortable they were out of the box. I have big (13) wide feet and even normal shoes can be a challenge, but these feel great. I realize they don’t have the level of protection that motocross boots have, but they are a big step up from the cruiser boots I was wearing. Thanks again for taking the time to do this update.

I wish I could post a pi ture of the xrays of my right foot after getting it caught, pinned under my Vstrom 650 last summer, wearing my Forma boots. I fell down riding off road in softball size rocks. The sole of the boot completely folded, with my foot inside. Result: every tarsal bone was crushed, including the large bone of the big toe. It took 2 hours of surgery to put it back together, with 12 screws, titanium plate, bone graft, and three K-wires. 2 months immobilized and over a year of recovery. I’m now in the market for a boot with a much, much stiffer sole. I’m looking at the Sidi Goretex Adventure boot.

I just bought a pair of Sidi Adventure 2 boots. They offer far greater protection than the Forma boots you show, to the extent that I would class the Forma's to be a more general purpose riding boot than a good adventure boot. My old leather boots game me no protection from cold or wet, no impact protection or support for ankles, and minimal padding for the shin compared to my new boots that offer superb protection all round, and provide rigid protection over the instep and ankles along with toe and heel protection. The Sidi's are possibly the best adventure boots available today. It would be great if you could test and review a pair in comparison with your old Forma boots.

Ive had theses boots for 4.5yrs, ridden through some big storms and feet have stayed perfectly dry. I use Leather Dressing on my boots. Its a thick heavy leather conditioner. Keeps all the stitching sealed, along with the leather in great condition. Apply when boots are warm, it will soak in, then wipe off excess..

I have the short versions and rode primarily off road with them dirt biking. I didn’t like how stiff the MX boots were and these fit the bill. I love them, they’ve done their job. Had them for two years now.

I like mine. I switched to motocross boots for the harder stiff because there wasn’t enough support in the ankle area. I just use them for street/forest service roads now. I had an issue where my foot peg would catch the inner panel of leather. Caused me to fall a couple times as the boot got caught as I was putting my foot down. I contacted Forma about it suggesting a possible issue and maybe changing the design for future versions. They offered to 50% off a new set. I told then I wasn’t looking for new boots but just suggesting a way to make them better. Thanks for the review.

This is a nice video. I agree brown is better even for black pants.

I own these boots and I concur with all of your conclusions. I looked at the Sidi boots, but they are so narrow that I think that they only fit people with 4 toes, and I have 5... I once hiked 5k in them. That hurt, but most boots that protect you well would have had me in tears after 1k. Good review!

Tim, great review, thanks. I've had my Formas for 2 years and love 'em, but obviously have not done anything like the miles you have. So they should last another couple of years then 👍😊

Glorified tennis shoes and the support of them also. I use Gearne Fastbacks for the best of support and comfort along with being able to resole them.

Hey Tim, good to see the long term review. I was looking for boots and your previous video got me leaning toward the Forma. A couple other videos had good reviews as well. So I ordered them. Just got them in and haven't even got to ride in them yet but I can say they feel like a winner. Good to see the long term review confirms a good purchase. Cheers!

I have had the Terra version of thee boots for 4+ years, about 40,000 miles. For the waterproofing, you will find that the boots have an internal waterproof liner - funny thing is that for those, the most common point of failure is long toenails :) if you have anything like twigs, trocks, etc (Or long toenails ) you can wear away at the waterproof liner and compromise the waterproofness of the boots. Just calling that out, if your boots do not have the internal liner, then you can disregard, but I think all the forma boots are the same in that respect. Good video, thanks for it. Mike

I have owned these boots for a year and have had to repair them already. The sole started to come apart (glued together rather than stitched). Just be aware you may want to bring some shoe glue in case you have a blow out like I did!
