@Mad J Oda has intentionally played up the “destiny” aspect of one piece. Right now, it seems like Luffy was the chosen one all along and everything is happening because of destiny (father is dragon, gramps is garp, brother is Ace and Sabo, has CoC, has impeccable timing to save people who are gonna die the next day). However, Oda has ALSO painstakingly shown that everything that Luffy has done has happened because of his own free will. For example, in whole cake, oda explicitly states that the future can be changed as a response to Katakuri’s future sight. Also, Haki literally translates to will and in chapter 1047, kaido has explicitly stated that Haki (free will) is more important than hacks devil fruit (Nika aka destiny?). Oda has intentionally setup the question of destiny vs free will within one piece and I really do think he is gonna give an answer to this sooner or later. I also don’t think it’s fair to straight up call one piece a “chosen one story” until this question is answered. Basically, we don’t know. Oda has setup a question on whether Luffy’s journey happened because of his own free will or if it was destiny. He’s gonna answer this. Edit- it’s also very different from naruto because the themes of fate, destiny, and crossroads of fate have been EXTREMELY IMPORTANT throughout one piece, unlike naruto who’s MAIN THEME is that hard work trumps natural talent when in reality, naruto is “ninja Jesus” Stop with that "you're not a real fan" bs as well.

The definitive test to see if you'd like one piece is reach episode 37. If by that episode, you still aren't hyped or haven't fallen in love with the crew yet, just drop OP at that point because it's kinda formulaic but it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and we just get more and more tight with the crew as the story goes on. Episode 37 is the peak of the first saga imo.

I know 250 epi's is a huge deal, but for One Piece it's still pretty early on in the story. If you hate OP after Arlong Park, sure, drop it. But if you're still not entirely convinced, but giving it a chance, I think Water Seven/Enies Lobby convinces everybody who could potentially like One Piece type stories.

Ultra Instinct is just differently animated Kaoi-ken. The show has been riding the same shtick for 30 years. Ironically its so much like Kaio-ken that despite being something anyone could theoretically learn (Roshi is apparently close), and would make all the secondary Z fighters so much more relevant, it'll only be given to Goku because reasons. "Goku is the only one skilled enough", but just like Kaoi-ken the power inflation will continue and all the secondary Z fighters will eventually be as strong and skilled as Goku is now and yet still denied use of it just like they are denied use of Kaoi-ken.

If you dont get the complexity of the things that take place but instead skim over the footnotes & make an uneducated joke about it...its not very accurate being my point. The delivery of the world building & suspense of the story unraveling is what gave it more depth than other comics/shows during it's time. So if you conclusion is that its simply about bankai and the MC's ethnicity ...then you understood nothing.

Plus Toei is the studio and their budget for One Piece weekly only depends on what fights will impact the series the best. So yes…obviously the manga is better. And the animation quality is only 1/10 of the categories to score a rating on a sensible rubric. The remainder should go to: characters, plot, storytelling, world building, art style, fights, drama, music, and relatability. Sure the newer ones have an automatic 1/10…except Seven Deadly. But nowadays they don’t have even 5 good scores in those other 9 categories…so the newer anime are mid(average) at best.
