Carrie Fisher's delivery has a regal quality that a person of true nobility should possess, even in a crisis. You can just "hear princess" all through her delivery. Too many of the other auditions from other young ladies were too intense and hyped like whiney teenagers. Carrie Fisher nailed it royally!
@CapstoneTider10 жыл бұрын
You nailed it. She was not the prettiest one for sure, but she could say her lines with authority, even if they were gibberish to her. Which is a trait of a blue blood! On sex appeal, her personality made her sexy, with average Hollywood beauty.
@kamuelalee5 жыл бұрын

Though she reads well, her tone is completely different from the character she made famous in SW. Here she's almost consoling Han with a motherly tone. Carrie has said many times she flubbed the long, technical lines during shooting and needed many takes. She did well here mainly because she went slowly in order not to flub it. But that slowness made her seem too consoling and thoughtful, unlike her final performance where her character is clearly much more urgent, plucky and quick-thinking. In this scene in the film, she's almost distracted, as her thoughts are is already in the future on how the plans might reveal a weakness. Very enjoyable. I always love seeing these auditions and how early drafts change so much, as do the actor's performances, before the final finished product. Great movies, like most art, are the result of doing things over and over, constantly refining it until you feel you've 'got it'.

The character was originally written to be vaguely British, and more proper and put-together. You know, the typical princess. When she came on set she played the character as more sardonic, casual, and modern. Eventually she and George Lucas came to create (together) the character we know now. But the way she's doing in the audition is how it was originally written. Crazy, huh? (Got this from Carrie's book, The Princess Diarist, if anyone is interested!)

This must have felt so surreal at the time, before Star Wars became A Thing. To just sit there and have this conversation about random space jargon in such a serious tone. Now I really want a sci-fi space film where everyone just wears 70s clothes and hangs out in 70s apartments. Kind of like 2001 space odyssey was with the 60s.

I know that feeling, too, but as an educator, and in keeping with what Derek Sivers said, "something that is obvious to us, is often not obvious and amazing to others." I think something like, "Carrie Fisher auditions with Harrison Ford" might get you more views, anyway. Thanks for the response and hope you're having a happy holidays!
@WishItWas19848 жыл бұрын
True, even with the unmistakable voice of Harrison Ford, there will always be a few. I actually have the essential keywords attached to the video, so it's easy to find. Views definitely aren't an issue with this. The thing has gone mini-viral since yesterday. Yesterday alone it got 446,000+ views. Only 1.1 million over the previous 10 years combined by comparison. But it's for obvious reasons and I'm glad it's here for fans before and now. Views are cool in a weird sort of "something I posted was enjoyed by how many people?!" sort of way, but it's all meaningless considering why that is. She went decades too soon.
@stormthrush378 жыл бұрын
WishItWas1984 Some very good points. Yeah, my timing is probably pretty poor given what just happened. Interesting on the metrics; I wouldn't have guessed it would have been such a high percentage, but I suppose that makes a lot of sense; yeah, it's hard to look at the viewcount in the same way when you're seeing such a high percentage in direct correlation with her untimely passing. And man, for her mother to go the day after, at that. Talk about a double whammy for their family. :( Best of wishes to them all during this incredibly hard time.
