It's clearly not the shifter. All evidence suggests it's the wires under the hood. Every time you try improving the connections under the hood, it works again.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it or if you've figured it out, but the other day you showed a frayed metal cable on the back end - that's probably the brake cable, which explains your issue. Any bicycle shop should be able to take care of that super quick.
