Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action. During my visit to Nottingham railway station, the showcase of this freight was very impressive, it deserved to have its own film.
DB Cargo UK class 60001 was hauling this fuel tanker train which I think must be one of the longest ones I’ve ever seen and perhaps one of the longest in the country, crawling through Nottingham hauling thirty-two tankers, each one 30 metres. Times that figure by the number of tankers, this makes the whole about more than half a mile long which is even more impressive especially it was done by a single locomotive. So, what do you think? In general these oil tanker trains are about 32 wagons long and weight in at 3200 tonnes when laden. These trains work the Kingsbury Oil Sidings to Lindsey Oil Refinery which is about twice a day. The best place to get them is here at Nottingham but if you wanted more oil trains. Its best to take a wee trip over to Barnetby as they get about 4-5 oil trains through there on a good day. If you buy the East Midlands Rover, you could do a full week at various locations. That's what I did when I used to live in Nottingham before coming back to Derry/Londonderry in 2017. Yep it's one of the longest regular trains at 608m, but some of the container trains out there are a bit longer. The longest regular service I'm aware of are the car trains too and from the BMW Mini plant in Oxford, these are 686m long.

I think the High Output Ballast train is currently the longest 2 locos 44 wagons a tamper unit and some other powercars in one set!! I do miss watching the oil trains rumbling past the signal box back in the day though!!

My youngest Daughter use to drive these Kingsbury Oil trains out from Humber and Lindsey refinery's she's moved onto pass now with all the uncertainty with rail freight after loss of coal traffic . This flow is also worked with Class 66's with 32 tanks but they struggle bit compared to class 60 flat out after leaving Lincoln and push back into Kingsbury terminal but of struggle with 66 . If you want long trains we are running 42 wagon coal trains from Redcar to Scunthorp twice a day double headed with class 66

The possibly the longest and certainly the heaviest are the Mendip Rail mega trains. Up to 46 wagons from the Mendip's quarries of Hanson's and Aggregates Industries to Acton in West London where the train is split in to portions that are then forwarded to various depots such as Day Aggregates sites at Purely, Crawley, Tolworth and Newhaven. Other long trains are the car services to/from Southampton docks and the biomass trains Drax from various docks including Liverpool. A trial aggregates train has recently been tested from Peak Forest to Wembley consisting of 39 x 102 tonne wagons, a dead 66 (included as a precaution in case extra power was required) hauled by a class 70.

What Scares me is that here in the US freight trains are 2x as long so you can be waiting at a crossing for like 6 min +

I live by a level crossing where I wait 6 mins for a 3 car passanger train to pass at 10 kph: it does stop at a station whilst I wait, though. In France, near Montrichard a 16 car TGV closes a crossing for 35 seconds as it passes at 150kph. It's almost as if the French won't put up with being treated like shit by rail operators.

We have container trains that are double stack, each car can carry 2, 53 foot containers. The usual train is 180 cars but have counted up to 240 cars. 2 locomotives in the front 2 spread out in the middle and 1 on the back

I take it you're talking the USA, I often watch the Cajon Pass , Hesteria CA livecam and those can be mega long they can cover end to end of the pass and it's like 1.1 miles across. Some locos configuring of Tankers, boxcars, covered silo wagons, coal/mineral container cars and refrigerent boxcars and they can be 5-7 minutes on your screen

We get those here too (Ontario): this whole move to using distributed power units through out the train has led to longer and longer inter-modals in particular. But it is not just the length but also the size of the locomotives and freight cars that is amazing. They are friggin massive, particularly when you get up close. I got invited up into one as it was building a train: it was like being on the second floor of an apartment. But I do admit that I love English trains. Very excellent video, thanks!!

You try telling the residents of Lincoln that this is the norm along with all the current container trains that come through Lincoln Central everyday. They are not happy as the barriers on the high street / Brayford crossings are now down more minutes per hour than they are up! That is not including passenger services which have just increased with LNER putting on an extra 5 trains a day too

@@ConrailQuality775 lower accident ratios speak for our signalling. Signal boxes are anyways used only on low density lines. The mainline is ABS
