It's difficult to grow in the desert even in containers but they do come back up from the root when the weather cools. It makes great longevity spinach and onion omelette!

I'm in Tucson. It grows year round for me. I thought it died this past winter because I had forgotten to cover them during a freeze, but they bounced back. I grow them in 5 or 10 gallon buckets. One in a good sized pot. They are all under trees where they get morning sun and shaded later.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful technique of harvesting this weed for cooking and reqrowing I was thinking it was a waste to throw away the stem with new leaves growing out. Will get some Small Dixie cups to use as starters! Thank you for the recipe on steaming the plant leaves! I subscribed looking forward to seeing more of your videos!

Hi. in your zone 9b, do you grow them as perennials? Thanks from fellow gardener.

We call this plant in Malaysia as 'Sambung Nyawa', literally meaning 'Prolonging Life'. Malaysians believe by eating this herb, you can live longer. I used to grow it in my yard, then it got too bushy, plus I do not like the taste, so bland, so I got rid of this plant from my yard. These days when I see it, I just ignore it, I don't even give it a second look.

How long does it take to get those plants to have large leaves and growing big? I live in Hawaii and have a plant that's been growing for about 9 months and its more like a small bush with smaller leaves (about 1-2"). I have started harvesting some leaves & stems and just rooted some cuttings so I can ramp up my production.

I have 2 plants in a pot so far and plan on growing more. I live in NM and it starts freezing around october. What do you suggest about moving them inside and if I don't have good sun, what kind of lighting and how long?
@gayatrimelkote68224 жыл бұрын
They need to be protected from frost especially in pots. A good window will do for light. If not keep it where you have the lights on most of the time.
@juliemeadows54454 жыл бұрын
@@gayatrimelkote6822 thank you. Have you ever made a tincture out of it? If so, how, and how much do you take a day?

can anyone tell me if the leaves are smooth or fuzzy? and are they fleshy like malibar spinach?
@DeadeyeJoe375 жыл бұрын
They are smooth. The leaves are thicker, but I don't feel like they're waxy like the Malabar spinach. They do have a stiffer stem, though. My longevity spinach is still young, so I haven't really had a harvest off of it yet. However, I've harvested some Okinawan spinach (closely related) and that is great in a green smoothie.

Grocery store produce section. Should be like a $1.25 for a bundle. Use only stems that are firm.
