Sweet Sadie is living her very best life, she is fulfilling the purpose her breed was created for, to be the protector of her own herd, by herself, no distractions from anyone to do what her nature tells her to, she gets a daily dose of human connection at feeding time & sometimes sleep overs, but SHE prefers to not be distracted, so she can protect her herd-family. So glad you brought her here to the J❤L from the chaos & noise & dogs SHE FELT, @ ISS & LHL, the proof is clear - J❤L is Sadie’s forever Happy Place

Sadie is happy and living out her purpose on her terms. The are people that don't remember when the cows were moved, how she barked 24/7 . As soon as she was moved to the J&L that stopped. She was looking for her cows. She's a livestock guardian dog, she want and needs to guard her livestock and the cows are what she is bonded with. The same way Millie has bonded with the chickens next door. People also don't realize that there are many people that leave dogs with their herds on property all the time. You do far more than most when it comes to your cattle and dogs. Many see it in the view of Sadie as a pet. She's not a pet she's a working dog and she's loving what she does.

Maybe the people who are upset with y'all leaving Sadie out there don't realize or don't know how y'all ended up with her. For those who don't know, she was found at a lady's house, farm, hanging out with her horse and I think a mule. She wanted to be out there with them, because that is what her innate instincts compel her to do. She is a breed of dog that is HAPPIEST when they have a job, taking care of and guarding livestock. She is doing what she is bred to do. Period. So ease up on Lester and Jami please. Sadie would be MISERABLE kept inside.

My dad kept 2 bulls a smaller one for his heifer and another for his proven cows. He changed out every 2 years his bulls. He started out with 6 cows using his brother in law bull, in 78. They were red with a white face. At 30 he switched out to Angus cause it was new and up and coming for preferred beef. At the time of his death he had 100 cows not counting bulls or calves. All his cows were within 2 months of them delivering their babies. Dad had a great reputation he sold steers sold as Prime Restaurants use. We sold them before they had there calves but 6 which my brother used to start his herd. Unfortunately my brother passed few years later. My nephew now has a wonderful farm but still working full time so it’s waiting for him.

Lester, I found this with large dogs rescued on reserves here in Canada. A lot of those big herding/guardian dogs are unhappy living a life inside or in a yard. I find it’s even harder on the dogs that lived their entire lives on the reserves who never really had human contact. It was really hard on some of the pups who came from a life of freedom to lives inside or in yards. They weren’t happy inside during the winter, they were perfectly happy making their nests outside in -30 degree weather and sleeping during snowstorms. They didn’t want to be inside during these storms. They didn’t want other dogs, or people or lives that most domesticated dogs Lived. They survived as long as they did because they had to. To Expect them to be happy in a life that we think they should be happy in is unfair. Just because it doesn’t seem ideal to us doesn’t mean it isn’t ideal for those pups. It’s what is best for the dogs, and if it means no snuggles on the couch or bed then so be it. It’s all in what those dogs need most. Life on the reserve isn’t easy for any dog, and it will never be easy for Me to see them trying to survive in a very harsh world. But guardian dogs are happiest with space and a purpose. My favourite thing is seeing these dogs go live on acreages to live their best lives. It’s tough for us who want to give all Of our animals their best lives. But we also need to be open to the fact that not all dogs want to sleep inside with you, or even get constant love from their people. I see a very, very happy Sadie dog. She’s definitely living her best life. And she has a dad who loves and understands what makes her happiest. You’re a wonderful human being, Lester. Thank you for all you do. And for sharing your animals with us ❤

I LOVE the vision of Tex and Santiana at LHL, down the line. When you went to look at the property that was your vision, for Tex to be there with Santiana, it's perfect and comes full circle. I love seeing Sadie living her best life, where she is with her babies, you can see how happy and content she is. Lester, I have to say that you have to do what you think is best for your future and for all of your babies. I love the fact that Tex and Santana will be able to live together at LHL's. I would hate to see Waylon be moved along and any future bulls, but I get it. You have some exquisite Longhorns. Anyone should be proud to own one. My fear is how do you know for a fact that one would never be sent to slaughter? I worry about that. Plus, nobody is going to take care of one or love one more than you. My sister, niece and myself have taken on a abandoned Great Perinese (sp) who was afraid of people. She's looks just like your Sadie. She is living at my sister's house and my sister got the first reaction from her. We don't have all the animals you have, not by a long shot but she guards the cats and chickens as if they were her children. She's coming along very well but has a ways to go yet. I love getting to see Sadie come up for some loving and a treat. Then she goes back to her cows and babies and watches over them and keeps them from harm

Great Pyrenees love to do what they are meant to do. Long ago (and maybe still?) they were responsible for taking care of herds of sheep and goats in the Pyrenees mountains without human guidance. Sadie has the same genetics and she's just doing what this breed loves to do. Leaving her to watch over your babies is just what she loves to do and it's not in any way treating her badly. In fact, without a herd to care for, Pyrs will make their human family their herd and watch over their people with the same enthusiasm. My husband and I were well taken care of by our Pyr Gracie Sugarbear for 12 1/2 years and I miss her every day. They are a very special breed of dog and you are blessed to have Sadie watching over ! the JL ranch!
