Love both the Big Eyes. I’ll consider the lume as tan and not faux too on this one. But scratching my head on the 30 m water resistance for any modern made watch. The steel version is still high on my list. Lastly, BUY IT!

I have to say this is one of the best watch channels out there. Quality of shots, editing, and soundtrack is always perfect and in sync. Not to mention the slight touch of humor just to keep the viewer grounded and remind us all of our crazy yet wonderful obsession. Looking forward to the next one! P.S. I know it's been overdone but would love to see your take on the Black Bay 58 black or blue...or both!
@YoureTerrific3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. As for the BB58, I had one on loan for a while but decided not to do a review. There are plenty out there already. My quick take: it’s a great watch and can’t be beat for the price. And I find it boring.

I absolutely agree. This channel convinced me to buy 2 watches in previous posts. And this clip just might make me buy a 3rd one 😅

it's funny; many things about this Avigation that i would not think would work for me: three dials, one of them almost overwhelming, black on blue, to name two, but i am digging it to the max. i do own a Longines so i am fan. thanks for a great overview.

Funny, after a year I’ve swung back to this vid. I have a Longines Conquest (39, black) on the way after learning more about Longines and the insane value for money prop. They fly so far under the radar it’s almost an obligation to own one….or two after this vid. I’m always amazed how tastes in watches change drastically over the years. Last year this looked monstrous, this year it just ticks a lot of boxes. - I’d love to see your take on the Conquest and Hydro Conquest. That’d be a cool double header vid. 😎👍🏼

It is elegant and classy! I feel that this can be dressed up or down. It is understated yet complex. Eye catching but doesn't demand it. It's so completely well rounded. I am not a watch person, never have been, and this will be my first "real" watch. I usually take my apple watch and go, but am excited to pick it up and wear it for the right occasions!

one weakness: you may or may not be able to swim with it. It depends on which ISO standard Longines follows. I find it a significant disadvantage in an 'adventure' watch, that water resistance may be a concern.

Been interested in this big eye for some time now. Modified eta movement with a column wheel. Looks unique and will obviously be a great talking point. About £3k which to me seems competitive. Regarding the 30m water resistance, it’s not a game changer. I certainly wouldn’t go swimming in an expensive watch even if it was 300m. It’s just convincing the wife that I need another watch…!

Damn, you are reviewing all the models I'm thinking about. I already own 2 watches in your personal collection, Mark XVIII and SBGM221. I also own the exact model of Reverso you reviewed favorably. If you are thinking about finally adding a chronograph, try to get your hands on the discontinued 2017 JLC Master Chrono with a sector dial. I got it preowned for about 7 grand and it's a brilliantly handsome thing, much more appealing in the metal than in photos. 40mm by 12mm, 65 hours of reserve.

My Bremont Alt1 uses the 7753, and I rather like the 'wobble' but the thickness is one you have to get used to.The Longines is stunning. I also use the chronograph a lot for cooking, but that's because if I put something in the oven at 6:53pm for 35 minutes, it's certain I will forget and my phone is always somewhere else...

This should tell you something, I'm looking for a watch to buy to get some history with an AD, something I can resell easily and I think oh yeah there's this cool Bigeye I should check that out. Of all the reviews that came up, big names, Teddy, WatchAdvisor, blah blah I pick this channel. In fact I was very glad to see there was a review for it. So thanks, you're doing great! PS don't judge me haha I am thinking pragmatically that's all (in reference to the Bigeye).

Nice review! One thing is puzzling me. The official site states that the movement has a 66h power reserve, yet so many reviewers such as your self are claiming a 54h power reserve. Could you elaborate on that?

I have the stainless steel Longines Avigation BigEye and love it. While I think the titanium blue BigEye is very nice, the price is significantly more. I like the stainless steel edition better, beyond the less price, in that it is more to the original watch that has more of the original look of a traditional and historical pilot watch.

If I was ever to buy another chronograph again, I'd buy this one. But I would be hella upset with my decision if they went ahead and updated it for 100m water resistance, like on the Spirt chronograph. Hell, they should probably do that before I get too tempted.
@bigc2083 жыл бұрын
I have had the steel version for almost two years now. Love it. This one’s somehow not doing it for me. They should’ve stuck with a black dial. The combo of aged lume and blue dial with black sub-dials is not jelling well. For me it would’ve worked with an even blue dial and white hands. Going to stick with mine.

This watch is wonderful but to make it perfect, I would have reduced the diameter at 38mm, reduced the thickness of the case with a manual movement 13-13,5mm(maybe flyback with sapphire case back) and reduced also the thickness of the lug (it looks like a tank on the side view)...
@lamentate0715 күн бұрын
The watch doesn't look or wear like a 41, the titanium makes the thickness irrelevant and the lugs give the watch presence on wrist.
@dingodave39663 жыл бұрын
Geez, I don’t need you, to help me, rationalise my decision making, or do I...🤔. But thank you. Like it, but bought a Longines Heritage Diver Chrono (didn’t have a decent chrono) (that was my excuse) 300m w/r, not that I’ll ever put it near water, too many things that wanna bite you here. Mate, you’re terrific (please keep it up) I get a good laugh, great info and do appreciate it. Dave 🇦🇺

That water resistance is the biggest downfall. It seems like they could have done 50 meters without sacrificing looks or raising the price considerably. Damn, it's charming though.
@YoureTerrific3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on every part.
@Rancid_Ziggy3 жыл бұрын
What chronograph are you going to bring into the water?
@derekeboyd3 жыл бұрын
@@Rancid_Ziggy The Fortis Cosmonaut actually allows you use the chrono pushers at depth. I believe the Marinemasters allow the same functionality. I'd take a Seamaster Professional Chrono in the pool, but I obviously wouldn't use the pushers. I take my Moonwatch off for anything beyond washing my hands though. I do believe that some degree of fragility gives a little bit of charm and I actually like that I have to think about my Speedy when I wear it, but it does have 50 meters of resistance so I don't worry about wearing it in the rain and wear it as my daily, even though it's by far the most valuable watch in my collection. 30 meters of water resistance would make me think twice about wearing this Longines daily. I find it odd that they pair such a durable case material with such a delicate case sealing. Either way, it's a lovely piece and I think the Big Eye is remarkably charming.

Lol, FK that it's a great piece lots of watch for the money, I own the first release and it's stares down on my more pricey Chronograph's in my collection like Zenith, Heuer, Tudor and Brietling premier all column wheels etc, The movement is actually based on a 7750/53 which is reworked to a new movement Valgranges back in 2006, Valgranges which translate to Large as its 31.8mm in diameter 6.9mm tall which was created by ETA for Longines and Omega in which Omega called Caliber 3330 with added CoAxial escarpment. Longines kept it simple until after 2010 when it was reworked again by ETA and Longines as the L688.2 and .4 and so on. It's not modified but entirely reworked with added blue steel column wheel, vertical clutch and oscillating pinion mechanism and lastly two automatic reset hammers to zero! Valjoux 7750/53 doesn't stand a chance. Cheers bro.

30m water resistance just feels lazy, if I am paying over $1000 for a watch I expect a screw-down case back and screw-down crown. If Sinn can do it with their 556 at around $1000 there is no excuse...
@johnanth3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about 30 metres water resistance. They will actually meet that spec since it's Longines so you'll have nothing to worry about, even if it ends up underwater for a bit.
