In this video I share my thoughts and we talk details of this sub $2,000 Swiss diver. A full comparison to the higher priced competitor- the Oris Aquis will follow shortly. I have the same version in black. 41mm actually is the best choice. In the former model they had also 39mm version which was fantastic. The new version is much more modern. And there is a fair comparison to the Seamaster as well. Both of them are coming from aluminum bezel ring to ceramic bezel ring. One last word to the crown guards: if you compare the crown and crown guards with the logo design there is a similarity. It‘s almost the Longines logo on the crown/crownguards. How great is this? And the Longines logo is one of the most important within the watch industry since it is the oldest logo in the world that is registered and haven’t changed since than. If you think about this facts, maybe you will be more ok with the crownguards :)

This video has two brands that mean the world to me as my dad bought himself an Omega Seamaster and my mother an incredible Longines when they were engaged in 1947 so you’ve covered two of my favorite brands. The anthracite dial looks great. One thing to feature is that there is hand applied silver surrounding each of the numerals and the date window aperture. There’s a really high quality movement in this model. Longines makes a Hydroconquest chronograph model that you’d like a lot. It’s available in anthracite, blue or black dial models with all three available in 43mm models and the anthracite and black models also available in 41mm which I prefer as in my mind the parts of the dial become more focused on first glance. I think it would make for a great review and in fact I think you’ll buy one. 😉 I’m all for crown guards on dive watches if you really dive. Things happen in the water and on or near boats. Great review Bruce I have a request that I don’t think you’ve reviewed yet. Tudor Black Bay Steel on Steel Bracelet if you can. The finish on the dial is really great and perfect for the piece and I think the piece is the new guy’s Submariner.

They also made a special "France edition" that was made only for the French market and limited to 500 units only. My father got one for his 50th birthday, gorgeous piece. Comes with an additional French flag NATO strap that has quite some heft.

The large numerals are what defines this watch. It’s a bold and distinctive statement. I think it looks better viewed from a distance, e.g. from someone elses perspective rather than when you look at close on your own wrist. Most other watches just become one generic style that could be anything. The larger numbers are distinctive, exuding confidence, design and character.
@jacc88888
@jacc88888 Жыл бұрын
@@Nick-cs9dt yes I see you point, it certainly makes the design more original and unique, but each to their own. I just don’t like the large numerals that’s all, I think they look a bit odd and out of proportion with the rest of the watch: I would never have thought of the words “bold” and “confident” to describe them but then this is all down to subjective opinion! Ps and yes, in person I might change my opinion, can’t always judge a watch just from a video 🙂

My favorite watch under 1500€. Is very difficult to find a competitor to this watch, and now they have a Green one (not the boutique edition). The Longines Hydroconquest boutique edition are even a better proposed, more expensive, but more watch, two straps with quick release, Dial in ceramic, silicon balance spring...

That anthracite is about as handsome as I have seen, especially since the colorway is both dial and bezel. Love the large numerals, but since I have an Oris that I love, I doubt I'd but this, but if i didn't have that watch, i think i'd give this a hard look. thumbs up!

I bought the new Longines Hidroconquest Chronograph 41mm with a blue ceramic bezel and the truth is I am very happy with it, it is a super well finished and very heavy watch, it feels good quality, I also have an Oris Aquis and the quality is similar in the two pieces, the Oris Aquis is heavier and larger, it is more robust and also has better lume, the truth is I bought the Hidroconquest Chronograph since I had never had a machine with a column wheel drive, I have had Lemania 5100, Valjoux 77xx etc. and compared to those the column wheel is much softer to the touch, I recommend them.

Those flying buttress-style crown guards remind me of the brutalist crown guard design on the Oris Aquis and the squat, broad case shape is reminiscent of the maxi-case Sub. Those elements do give the watch a butch, tooly aesthetic.

Great vid mate. I have the previous alu-bezel which I think (but I would) has a nicer dial and seconds-hand. The clasp is rudimentary I agree, but it is at least hard as nails - there's no opening that thing by accident! Lume seems improved on this newer version, mine is evenly applied but pretty useless in all but pitch-black conditions. All things considered the HC makes for a great watch, with a few compromises, at a great price, from a company with absolute heritage. Oh, and it'll look good on ANY strap you can throw at it - which is why it won over the Aquis for me :)

Since the early 90's I have always been partial to swatch group prouducts. In the 90's you could always get real factory Swatch group parts easy. Valjoux 72, 7750, 2892, 321, 5100 Lemania etc ... I owned one if these around 2010/2011. Not thus exact model, but with aluminium insert and I think it had a 2824 or 2892. Lots if watch for the money. I think a more sophisticated Mido or Certina. The high polish bracelet was too blingy for me.eventually sold it. I also owned an Oris Aquis at the same time. Sold that too. Case shape was not comfortable. When I bought the Longines I thought it was a better Tag Heuer Aquaracer. It reminded me of the Aquaracers in the early 2000's, when they rebranded the "2000" series the "Aquaracer", but with better quality fit and finish.

Hello, I just buy the 41mm blue ceramic version, yesterday, for my 40 years : The crown guard is designed like the Longines logo, so it isn't a problem for me. Polished links on the band are not "practical" due to the fingerprints but it's ok.. The only very BAD POINT is the 1 mm misaligned 12 hours marker on the rotating dive bezel, like on my 250€ seiko's !!! I think this is why Longines is just under TAG and Omega... ...I will called Longines to know if it's possible to do something for that (5 years warranty). Bye.

They could also move the day in between the 4 and 5 indices and add the 3 and still maintain balance.

Great vid, great watch. I would recommend the boutique edition. It's a little more expansive. But you get the bracelet and the the rubber strap, which is really beautiful. And you get a fast change system for both. A silicon hairspring and a ceramic dial, which looks outstanding. The results on the wrist are near 1sec. a day. It's one of my cheaper watches, but I love to wear.

So the movement is different in boutique editions?
@homefink2235
@homefink2235 4 жыл бұрын
@@zman8340 yes it's a modified movement. It's antimagnetic and better regulated in fact of the silicon hairspring.

@@zman8340 you could read this on the original website of Longines. It's written down on the defined specs of this edition. It's also rare. I only find one on chrono24.

Having both watches the blue hydroconquest with ceramic bezal and the aquis in green. The oris is definitely heavier. Both watches are solid but I do love the green aquis.

Since its an automatic watch..and swiss made, will it really last for a lifetime and will it need some maintenance or like change on some parts for the years to come?? Thank you for the reply..
@BC-dn6oq
@BC-dn6oq 2 жыл бұрын
It will last a lifetime, IF you ensure it's serviced at it's 5 year intervals. It's usually the lubrication that's the big culprit, as with most automatic timepieces. Setting aside £10 a month for a year, should probably be enough for that service. I have this exact watch, and although it's silly, my biggest worry is actually breaking the ceramic insert. I truly adore it though.

Hi Bruce. Every you tube video of watch reviews always show the dimensions but never says how many winds that specific watch should get to give a full wind. I wind Mt hydroconquest 20 time yesterday and let it lay on the table and only lasted 24 hours

In your opinion which watch is better the Tag Heuer aquaracer or the Hydroconquest?
@BruceWilliams
@BruceWilliams 4 жыл бұрын
As far as my own experience with the watches- I think the Tag is better. Better bezel action, lume, bracelet/clasp, dial details. It has an inferior movement, and a silly plastic movement spacer though

I would personally rather have the Aquis. Longines divers never really attracted me. I know i was just talking crap about Oris for coming out with to many "Special editions" but id say Oris have a much more diverse spectrum of choices for the Aquis and divers 65 than Longines. Im sure its a good watch the design just isn't for me. I do like their heritage collection though i have been looking at some of them

Really would love a no date version. It just seems unbalanced to me with having the 6, 9 and 12 but no 3. I just can't see past it.

Watches have a big crown stuck to the side. This is far more unbalanced than numbers. For me the date being a completely different icon to the numbers makes it balanced.

I have one of the slightly older models of these in the non-ceramic bezel in my collection. Honestly, I am a bit disappointed in it. As you say, the clasp is dated, and it also scratches quite easily. My biggest disappointment is that it loses 11 seconds a day. I expected better time keeping for the money. I think a lot of the price is in the Longines name recognition. I also have a new Zelos Thresher GMT that has an ETA 2893 and is 500m water resistant, that frankly I feel is a better watch for half the money. But let's face it - buying one of these isn't so much about the money, its the name and the way it looks. I just wish they could fix some of the issues that you mention and it would be a better watch.

I still prefer my Hydro 41(blue) in aluminum bezel, busy dial longines over the ceramic one. not feeling the diminished look with the indices and bezel. wished they updated the old one with ceramic, add a no date version,tapper down the bracelet and give it a better clasp system. That would be awesome!

I’m conflicted about this watch. Some very good quality aspects- movement, finish, materials to say a few. But, the dial is oddly busy to me for a simple 3 hand and date. Hour indices, oversized Arabic numerals, and a dive bezel all make it look overly busy to me. Plus the clasp looks cheap. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The swatch group omega and longines are wonderful. No way i.m.o is the omega worth the asking price of 5100.00 retail. Beautiful case back on the omega too see the movement is a plus. I.m.o. the case on the seamaster needs a definite change though especially with the h.e.v. I'd rate the omega at a 2500.00-3000.00 max price. The longiness i.m.o. is the better deal for buck Especially on the rubber and not the hideous bracelet.
