@@timemeasured9137 I went with the HydroConquest for a few reasons - 1. the fit is really versatile (I have 7 inch wrists), it works on the bracelet to have that sporty vibe, but you can put it on a leather strap and it dresses up or down depending on what you're wearing. 2. the movement is legit, accurate, and it has that slightly higher beat frequency (not that it's super noticeable, but for a watch nerd, it's nice to have) 3. the Seiko, while beautiful just feels slightly incomplete as a whole.

These are my exact two watches. Both beautiful and I love them both. My seiko does run a little fast, the Hydroconquest is definitely more accurate. I got both on sale but regardless the Hydroconquest is about 50% more than the 143 so you’d expect a higher level of precision. Both are brilliant.

Have both the SPB143 and Hydroconquest (older ally bezel) and love the Seiko look, but disapointed with the movement performance (+10s/day). Longines had a good eta movment, but the crown guards are awful, pinching my fingers every time i adjust the crown. The older bracelet had no taper and felt/looked like a much cheaper microbrand item. For me, the Seiko wins as a tool like submariner for the people! Thanks for the review.

When you consider their movements and the pricepoints of other watches including the movement, the Longines is better option by a wide margin. The Longines is "underpriced" considering the modified 2892 under the hood (the L888 is heavily modified but at the end of the day is still a 2892). The Seiko is overpriced given the 6R35, which can be found in watches less than half the price of the prospex diver in question. Seiko needs a new movement for the $1000+ pricepoint if they want to push their prices up. As reliable as the 6R35 is, at the end of the day its still basically a prettied up 7s26, which is as basic as it gets. Bringing the 4S line back would be a good start.

I own the SPB143 currently, and previously owned the Longines about a year ago. I agree with you about the specs of the Longines and the movement in the Longines is far superior. My SPB timekeeping is frankly subpar. However, the SPB exists better in a collection. It’s far more unique, it’s more interesting, has far better heritage than this particular Longines line, and the gray dial is stunning in person.

@@ViolinistWilliam Whilst I would agree that the older model hydroconquests were a bit generic and plain, I personally find that the revised Hydroconquests come off looking much nicer than the SPB143. The inclusion of more dressy elements, such as its sunburst dials, thinner font, Arabic numerals and the "snowflake" hour hand, as well as an upgrade in build quality makes it a very distinct watch in the diver category which is much more focused on sporty and aggressive designs. The SPB143 is a much more generic diver in my opinion. Whilst it adheres to Seiko's "Grammar of Design", it plays it incredibly safe and (IMHO) ends up looking like just another generic diver - especially when compared to other divers (such as the SPB151 "Willard reissue") in the Seiko Prospex Stable. In terms of heritage, the Longines has no less of diver heritage than Seiko however, neither the Hydroconquest or the SPB143 has a direct link to older models - unlike other divers from both brands. Whilst the Seiko takes design queues from classic 60s and 70s Seikos, it is clearly a modern model rather than a reissue. Similarly, the hydroconquest is a modern design unlike the Legend or heritage Longines Divers but it is still an extension of the conquest line of waterproof "sports" watches and divers that goes back to the 50s.

Some people say you should compare a Seiko to Longines and should only be compared to the likes of Tissot because Seiko isn’t entry-level luxury. I see no reason why you can compare these 2 watches as Anders has done here. They are priced comparatively at retail with the Hydroconquest at $1600 and the SPB143 at $1200. Granted folks are used to seeing heavily discounted Seikos on the gray market but I believe we’re going to see that slow down as Seiko is getting more active in limiting that kind of activity. Yes, Seiko badly needs to address their QC issues. In this comparison, both watches stand up well and have features I like and dislike. Personally, I own a SPB149 and plan on buying a Hydroconquest. Great comparison of 2 different styles (vintage vs modern) of dive watches !! 👍👍

I love the Hydroconquest "snowflake" hands. I am not a fan of the Tudor blocky "snowflake" hands, they do not flow with watch dials, looks unfinished. The Longines elongated and sword tip "snow flake" is beautiful.

Owned both, regarding build quality and quality control, Longines wins, hands down. So did the accuracy for me as well. I have gone through a couple of the Seiko's, purely down to the horrible quality control. However, the look and comfort of the Seiko...I just love it, I just wish I didn't!

Yes, unfortunately at least up to recently it's always been a lottery with Seiko! I was very lucky with my Seiko 5 Sports, the newer model, I got recently. +4 spd AND the bonus of a perfectly aligned chapter ring! Lol. When you order online you never know what you're going to get. Must say I'm happy with it. Only 100m resistance though, so just got a great deal on an Orient Mako XL. The Longines is very nice, bezel markings exactly the same as the Mako I just got. I have too many blue watches though! I do disagree on build quality though, Seiko has excellent build quality on their divers, bracelets leave a lot to be desired but the same is true for the Longines.

I had planned to buy a Willard but ended up buying the 143. I really love the watch but have to say the clasp is the part that lets it down for me. I'd much prefer if it didn't have the cheap looking and feeling dive extension (this part is just pressed metal). Other than that it feels really good. I've never liked the look of the Conquest. It wasn't even something I thought of as an option, but an interesting comparison nonetheless.

21mm is annoying for a lug width, but it's almost a sort of standard because it's (I think) what the Rolex sea dweller/deep sea has and thus all the many homages which follow it also have that same lug width. Because I like homages of the deep sea I get that lug width a lot.

Seiko is an awesome brand but very unsexy. This Seiko model is great, got it myself and love it. Longines HydroConquest is on my radar as well, as it is a lot of value for the money, but the symmetry between the elements (bezel, dial) is not very good.

I tried the 39mm HydroConquest (the older version). The size was perfect but I prefer the dial on the new one but no 39mm for this one... So the Seiko SPB143 is reserved on my name until the 140th anniversary edition (SPB213) arrives. I will have to decide which one to take home :-) Cool video!

Will never go for the Seiko diver watches. They have QC issues. Longines is much better in terms of this by a long mile. Also, Seiko can only be compared with the likes of Tissot/Mido/Certina. Even when compared, the 3 mentioned will have no issues taking down seiko. I own a seiko watch but the accuracy of it off the shelve is awful.

As for tissot, I do have one of its powermatic 80. Its almost 10 years since I own it. Only sent it once for servicing at the tissot service center. and they didnt charge me at all - Biggest shock of my life.

Excellent review, the finishing on the Seiko is exactly like my Seiko SRPD51K2, which is more sports with only 100m resistance. I had an opportunity to get an Orient Mako XL yesterday at a 45% discount so spontaneous decision, I bought it. And you know I just noticed that the Longines case is very like the Mako in some ways. It's also a pretty big watch, possibly bigger lug to lug than the Longines. Both are very nice but would probably still go for the Seiko out of the two, though partly because I have a couple of blue watches already. I went for the black Mako with orange bezel. Really striking combination!

This is a very interesting comparison, well at least price wise. A modern iteration of the Dive watch against a more vintage/classic one. As I have experienced both watches extensively, one of which I personally own, here are my thoughts: Seiko is not pretending to be luxurious like the Longines, which is definitely not a luxury item nor does it feel like a luxury watch in person. That does not make it a bad watch by any means. The Seiko is more honest, better build, will hold up much better due to Diashield and is by far better looking IMO. I do not get the "Swiss Made" fluff, thats a premium added on the price, to trick you into the hallucination that you wear an Omega or Rolex or something of a similar calibre. This is not a competion at all, its a no-brainer. But you should buy what you like :). Sorry for the long comment and thank you for the great video.

Hi Constantinos. I think your comment is very relevant - and I agree with you with your points. The Longines looks very good. I think it's kind of the very affordable Omega Seamaster - but Longines need to do more with the bracelet and the clasp. They could also do some more fine finished on the case. The Seiko is a very good stage up from a lot their more affordable divers. The case finishing is often very good but bracelet and alignment is very bad. The SPB143 corrects a lot of the cheapness of $400-600 Seiko divers. I would always recommend buying the SPB143 instead of buying 2-3 $400-600 Seikos. Get one very good Seiko and not 2-3-4 mediocre. I own the Hydroconquest and I also own a Seiko Turtle. Way cheaper than this SPB. Guess what. The Hydro regularly runs out of its power reserve just because I wear the cheaper Seiko so much more.

@@daveLin104 multiple reasons. The first one being the fact that my line of work doesn’t require me to dress up too formally. Even smart casual isn’t required. And I myself am more comfortable dressing down and more of a “streetwear” look. Even when we meet with clients (corporate, but marketing environment) we dress very casual. The longines is a bit more dressy, with polished finishing on the case as well as the bracelet. The Seiko on the other hand suits the more casual outfits way better. Then another reason is the history of the Seiko. The Seiko has way more history than the longines. It’s an actual iso certified diver and has been worn by numerous military servicemen. There have been so many publications out there about the seiko’s tried and tested experience in the field. And then the third reason (which combines the previous two reasons) is the fact that the seiko turtle is so much more versatile than the longines. Put it on nato. It looks amazing. Put it on an artem sailcloth, it looks amazing. Purchase one of the gazilion aftermarket stainless steel bracelets from strapcode, it looks amazing. Put it on a classic period correct rubber strap, it will look amazing. Which brings me to the fourth reason. The Seikos are classic designs tracing back to the 1960’s and 1970’s. Almost unchanged except for some markings on the dial. That makes them even more appealing to put on. Hope that explains it.

The reason I asked is because I have the spb143 and keep thinking of the hydroconquest as well. Maybe I should just stick to the 143 as it will suit my style more like you. I do also keep thinking of the slim turtle as well though as I have smaller wrists. I do love the slim turtle but do feel its lost some of the turtle design if that makes sense. Wish the normal turtle would fit me, thanks again.

I have checked both on my wrist before making my mind, longiness felt cheap and cheezy and light where as seiko was robust that polishing and sunburst dial is killer and all that for low price. I don’t know why people but longiness junk.

I'm not keen on either. Both are overpriced, but the Longines is definitely the better watch. The comparison is also wrong, because Seiko is a mass market brand while Longines is a luxury brand. Seiko should be compared to Tissot instead.

@@1233-d3h It most certainly IS a luxury brand!! Anyone who know the history of Longines can tell you that. Luxury doesn't mean watches costing $100k and studded with diamonds. The average guy in the street will never consider spending more than $150 on a watch at the most.

@@thetruth495 What does history have to do with luxury? Plenty of non luxury watch brands have amazing history and amazing vintage models, but that does not make them luxury items. Don't get me wrong, I like Longines, but it simply isn't a luxury watch. Omega is the cheapest luxury brand from Swatch group.

@@1233-d3hYou live under a rock? Longines, Oris etc are luxury brands. Learn about watches then speak. Omega and Rolex are the most overpriced "luxury" brands. Longines and Oris beats Omega for the price everyday of the week twice on sunday. For the money of this Hydroconquest which is modern watch made with great materials you can only buy vintage CRAP from Omega for this money haha.
