Longines Legend Diver: Blast from the Past

Let's revisit one of the first watches that got my heart ticking a little faster.

It's beautiful. In all context, you are not the only one suffering watch price drops as many dealers went OOB. My guess prices will continue to drop. That the real market. Good luck and enjoy your channel.

Definite keeper for me. In fact, consider investing in the Uncle beads of rice bracelet made specifically for this model. It’ll elevate the experience and improve the wear immensely.

I really like this watch. It's one of Longines signature watch designs. I feel you have the best current reissue version that's worth the most without the date. If it were any other one, 36mm and 42mm with date versions, you'd probably be more inclined to sell at a lower price as they are noticeably less collectible than the one you have. As I understand it, the 42mm no date was a fairly limited production run and thus should be fetching a premium because it's higher desirability. A lot of folks love a no date dive watch for perfect dial symmetry. As such, stick to what you feel the watch is worth to sell for you. I hate low ballers. If you can keep a listing for this watch up indefinitely, just let it ride as long as it may take till you find the right buyer to buy at the price you feel comfortable letting it go for. Until then, keep and enjoy it while you still have it. I am considering getting a Legend, but, I also know something new is coming out really soon (like this month November) for this heritage line and it may be the most perfect size yet. If i had this watch and the knowledge I have of upcoming Longines, it may sway me to possibly bite the reality pill that it may need to sell for less than you want given the trend to go for smaller dive watches, especially in new size never offered before. It may find stiff competition in price against its own upcoming releases.

hi uptick. i notice that you in the video mostly pronounce 'longines' with an 's' - but also (maybe!) a few times with a silent 's'? i just automatically always assumed the 's' would be silent - or is 'longines' an exception to this rule? and if so, why? :) thanks!

If you pronounce Longines in French, the S is silent. And the G is pronounced like in July and not Gear. So Uptick is right on spot

Longines, is my favorite watch brand. I own seven different Longines watches in my collection. As an avid Scuba Diver, I own a Longines HydroConquest Dive Watch which I love. I do not own a Longines Legend Diver watch at this time. I do love the design, however as an environmental Scuba Diver, ocean explorer, and as a scientist concerned about the environment and overfishing of our oceans, I would like to see Longines make a redesign change on the elegant Diver image on the caseback of the watch. I would like to see the harpoon removed from the diver’s hands and/or a new design of a more environmentally friendly diver on the caseback. So the diver does not appear to enter the ocean as a hunter, ready to hunt and kill aquatic life, but to appear as a diver entering the underwater world to explore the beauty of the natural environment and be respectful of all the fish living in their natural habitat. I have previously written Longines’s management and product development leader with this suggestion , even provided sketches as examples of a potential redesign of an environmentally-friendly looking diver. But, have never heard back. I love Longines, and as a Scuba Diver and ocean environmentalist, I hope one day Longines would consider my suggestion. I believe it would give the Longines Legend Diver watch a new and attractive look, and at the same time position Longines as a Dive Watch company concerned about the preservation of natural aquatic life in our oceans and waters of our planet. I would be happy to talk with someone from the company to further explain and discuss this topic. I have some thoughts to share regarding this.

Thank you for sharing your passion and expressing your point of view. I suppose the easy counter would be that lots of people eat lots of fish every day and someone has to kill that fish while someone else is further down the coast enjoying recreational diving. So it might be insignificant in some way whether there's a harpoon or not on the case back.

I was very interested to buy this model when it was first released. But when I tried it on I was disappointed with the long lugs. Longines have a great history and back catalog but they lack attention to what customers want. Every release always and consistently falls short of being a perfect homage, being they put dates on heritage models that shouldn't have dates or place the date in the wrong place or over exaggerate the case size or use an automatic movement for a pre automatic era homage. I think serious collectors try hard to want to embrace the brand but Longines are their own worst enemy. I personally have not revisited the brand since been discouraged from their poor design decisions

Longines and Seiko both screw up their reissues (or re-creations to use Seiko speak) by adding date complications to their reissues when the originals had no date windows. One of the few unadulterated Longines reissues is the 1938 Heritage Military which is a 43mm reference made for the Czech Army Officer Corp. it is the only Longines I own and it does not have either a date window nor the winged hourglass logo. The winged hourglass logo is horrific and ruins the dials of a lot of otherwise wonderful new Longines references for me. Less is always more when it comes to dials. As this compressor style cased Legend Diver prices, even just a date window is enough to ruin an otherwise classic design.
