So I’ve completed this mod and it works almost perfectly. The only issue that I’m having is that if I screw in the bottom left rear screw all the way and then slightly squeeze the shell the unit shuts off. Does anyone know why it’s doing this?
@amaiorano3 жыл бұрын
That usually means there's a short somewhere when you apply pressure. As in the video here, make sure to use kapton or wire tape to ensure no shorts.
@thenarrator57463 жыл бұрын
@@amaiorano So I figured out what the issue was. I don’t know about others but the solitary screw holding the shield plate in place presses against the motherboard. I solved this by taking the screw out and letting the plate sit freely in the console. It doesn’t move at all so problem solved.

I've reassembled mine about a dozen times. Pressing the "A" button too hard, or even tightening the screws too hard on that side of the unit causes it to cut off. I assume there is a wire pinched somewhere, or the case is contacting something on the board to short it out. I went over any potential contact points with kapton tape, re-routed the wires in different ways, and even removed the installed headphone jack to make adjustments easier to manage. It's usable, but I have to be somewhat gentle with it. Kind of bummed out that I can't get the installation quite right. I think I might just start from square 1 again and possibly try a thinner wire, or modify the case in some way.
@LIRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
Definitely use thinner wire and make sure that all the circuit boards are isolated. There’s a short somewhere that is causing that problem

I'll be honest with you... the Game Boy Advance SP as it was originally designed just doesn't cut it for me anymore. The buttons and D-pad are too thin, and while I'm sure that was intended to make the clamshell easy to close, it doesn't make them easy to USE.
