It was excellent. The story, cinematography, lighting, set design and sound design elevated this to my favourite this year. I love a slow burner but it’s hard to find the balance and some movies can fall flat but this one made sure the pacing was perfectly executed and it unfolded so menacingly towards the heart pounding climax. It left me with a malevolent feeling and I think that’s because the sound design played with subliminal noises that crept under my goose pimpled skin. 9 out of 10 for me. I took one mark away because I had figured out the twist halfway but it was executed so eerily that I didn’t mind at all.

@@BourbonJazzyLifeI do to extent agree this film is made for artists. It’s detailed and not everything is so straight forward with some of the interesting facts being suddenly alluded too like the dolls being made of parts of the main character or that her “psychic abilities” are the devil actually leading her down this path as a sick game. I get how someone couldn’t like this film but saying it lacks tension but has great cinematography is incredibly perplexing. Apart of why the cinematography is great is bc it’s makes the view unsettled and watching every corner and doorway. You fear for what’s going to happen every-time a character is center screen or at an angle with the background in shot. Also side note, the killings were specific to how longlegs choose them. But anyone could’ve been a causality. There are Several of characters in the movie that are killed without have a family or child spot of

I guess I’m in the minority. I didn’t love the movie. The story got silly in the 3rd part, and it exposition dumped a lot near the end. Nicholas Cage wasn’t bad, but I didn’t find his look or acting to be that menacing. The singing really took me out… The satanic element was very subtle and almost nonexistent beyond spooky shadows in the background. Maika Monroe was terrific tho, as always. SLIGHT SPOILERS: The doll thing with the orbs just did not do anything for me. And before people attack me or try to say it, I understood the movie. I didn’t have high expectations because I know better, but it didn’t fully “go there” or deliver. From the brilliant marketing and nice trailer, I just expected a less goofy story/twist 5.5/10

Oh my God, same. Like I enjoyed it, but felt like the 3rd act was rushed and the resolution weak. It maintained a genuine creepiness for the first 2 acts, but as soon as a certain someone delivered an exposition dump narration, I felt seriously let down. It reminds me of how people say the movie Sinister lost them once the supernatural elements came fully into the picture. Sinister actually worked for me (shifty ghost children aside), but with this movie, it fell flat the minute all of that stuff was revealed. Still liked the movie a lot, but didn't feel like it was anywhere near as dark or disturbing as I initially thought it was gonna be.
@stevensmith3523
@stevensmith3523 Ай бұрын
[9/10] I agree with you somewhat. I loved it but I think near the end they showed Longlegs too much and his level of creepiness went down as soon as you knew exactly what he looked like, just a normal, if not a little weird, looking dude. The singing was a bit silly at times it reminded me that Nicholas Cage was behind the makeup. SPOILERS: Would have changed: I wish it stuck to a more ambiguous ending, less supernatural than what happened at the end. Like maybe Cobble and Harker's mom are just both crazy and found each other comforting rather than both being influenced by the devil. I wish the reveal of Longlegs (Nick Cage) was when Harker found the photo in her room rather than cutting to those psychic links. The supernatural elements came in really fast in my opinion. I found is scary because it was just a man that was seemingly stalking these children and Harker. Shifting it to a satanic/occult supernatural force took some of the wind out of the sails. I immediately thought, well we know he's not crazy, or sadistic, he's working for the greatest evil. Which I though made it a bit reductive. But that's just me. Enjoyed: I have to say I really enjoyed the scene when Harker was a kid, the perspective of Longlegs from the mouth down like what a child would see and the reveal was fucking terrifying. I did like Detective Carter. His dialogue was a bit 80s buddy cop type back and forth but I thought it was realistic and a great addition to the story overall

Ok this is my honest review.. was expecting sooo much from this movie especially being compared to "Silence of the Lambs" (one of my favourites) ..not a Nicholas Cage fan at all - but everyone said his role in this movie was not like anything he has ever done.... the story line did not make sense, the main female actress did not connect with the audience or have any character development. The storyline was week - there was no real plot. Nick Cage's character was overdone - the key to Silence of the Lambs was that you connected with the characters - there was a plot .. Anthony Hopkins (with no over done make up etc) was there to help catch a serial killer... none of this applies. The filming style was good , and there were a few jump scares - but as far as it being a crime thriller - nope because nothing came together. Way too much close ups of the actress playing a sort of physic FBI agent - but no explanation. This film does not hold a candle to Silence of the Lambs or Seven... sorry ...

Unfortunately, I have to disagree. Supernatural element ruined it for me. Maika was great, but Cage's performance is overrated. So disappointed as they said he was unrecognizable. @WolfmansGotNards They literally showed dark creature looking figures in several scenes, and she (the FBI agent) got a call waking her up and telling her to go to the birthday party at the end?
