Longmont was the place to cruise back in the day before the city shut it down. Beautiful cars and proud owners thanks for sharing!

Grew up in Boulder in the 1950s and early '60s, Main Street in Longmont was the place to cruise. The Black Angus drive-in just south of 17th on the east side was the northern turn around point and down just south of 1st street on the west side was another drive-in, whose name escapes me now, was the southern turn around point. Many of us high school kids had mid 50's Fords and Chevys although there were many others. Myself and two other friends had '57 Fords, but my favorite ride was my late best friends maroon '55 Chevy convertible, He put a 283 in it with the fuelie (Duntov 30/30) solid lifter cam, 12:1 Jahns pistons, Mallory ignition, 4-speed w/hurst shifter, no front bumper, chrome reverse wheels with 7 inch cheater slicks, and at different times a single 4 barrel, 2-4s, and even a 4-2s set-up for about a month. I would dare say it was the coolest 'drive to school' hot rod at Boulder High...I lived in Longmont during the mid 1970s, just a couple blocks east of mid town on Collyer Street, How sweet were the sounds from Main Street that sang me to sleep back in those wonderful days. I had the chance to talk with John Bandimere some years ago, he grew up a half dozen blocks south of the Lakeside Speedway and recalled how the sounds of the speedway were music in his ears as he laid in bed as a child... I stumbled on this video and it brought back a lot of great memories... One other thing I'd like to mention is that our local drag strip was Erie's 'Mountain View Dragway'. On Google Earth/Maps part of the shut off area can still be seen about a half mile south of the Erie Parkway and directly south from the Erie High School, what fun that was, everyone brought their cars out to see what they'd do...All that was open country and farm land back then...cheers
