What did they learn from the Alien at the end of the game? Because I've been wondering for a long time. I read somewhere that they received basically unreliable or not very credible information. If that's the case, doesn't that basically negate the whole purpose of ODST? To go through all that trouble for basically nothing? Help me out here!!!

Not true on the unreliable intel. The UNSC learned from the Engineer (Vergil) that the Covenant believed that the Ark was on Earth. They eventually glassed New Mombasa in the spot where they believed it was, and that the whole invasion is the Covenant's search efforts to uncover the Ark. The Engineer basically gave the UNSC the information they needed to lead the final assault against Truth and the Covenant, eventually leading to the events of Halo 3.

@@iSteven51 Right. Ok. I just wanted to be sure. That's great to know. Because the ending of ODST as well as the beginning of Halo 3 wasn't clear at all as to what the Alien (Vergil) gave them that contributed to the latter's plot. Thank you @The Stavinator!

@@iSteven51 Also, it's just a question. Wouldn't the UNSC and the other protagonists simply have noticed the covenant digging anyways? and decided to attack anyways based on what they could've been digging for? Or, because they had learned the significance of what the alien told them, we then had ample time and breathing room to plan ahead and break through enemy defenses and air battery in the first half of Halo 3 in order to be in a position of trying to attack and stop Truth. Because that is what happened, and would have been far behind in knowing what the enemy was up to and being able to stop them if it wasn't for the ODST alien intel. I know I'm being super nitpicky here, but the plot and it's results are what I focus on the most when it comes to these Halo games.
