Guys, this isn't just about music, its about humanity. This music must be played ONLY by humans, which means, only humans can play this song, and they must continue this culture for at least 1000 years before reaching a loop and continue again. Now, this isn't pointless and boring, this music is about keeping humanity together no matter what may happen in the future. We must keep this music playing even if it means sacrificing our life. That, is the purpose of our life, to stay afloat and alive.

It's kind of mind-blowing when you really think about it. What will happen at 2090? I, for one, will most likely be near my death by then. 2160? Most of us here on this page will have been long gone by then. And to think, the Longplayer hasn't still at that point played even but a fraction of its full length. Such continuity and longevity. This must be what being human is about. Thinking about something that we have experienced, and what our descendants will still experience within a millenia.

+AtlasRedux "Longplayer" is a piece of music that is designed to last for one thousand years. So shut the fuck up.
@AlejandroRodriguez-ij3nr9 жыл бұрын
*****"Longplayer" is based on an existing piece of music, 20 minutes and 20 seconds in length, which is processed by computer using a simple algorithm. This gives a large number of variations, which, when played consecutively, gives a total expected runtime of 1000 years. The original music was composed by Jem Finer, who was also one of the founding members of the group The Pogues. It uses Tibetan singing bowls and gongs, which are able to create a range of sounds by either striking or rolling pieces of wood around the rims. This source music was recorded in December 1999. It was commissioned by Artangel.

Just like we all have a different idea of what Art is and for you it is the prolonged sound of flatulence. I respect that. If the secret of happiness lies not in the acquisition of more but in developing the capacity to enjoy less, then you are certainly a contented soul. And rightly so.
