I’ve bought some cheapo but waterproof Swiss army rucksacks to fit to my Himmy. I’ve fitted Polish gas mask bags, also waterproof, to the tank frames so along with ‘Marks Massive Blue Bag’ I can carry just about everything I need. They won’t look as neat as your set up but being on a Himmy, they’ll look fine. I really like the frames and mounting system on your bike. Ingenious 😂

I ordered the Mini Patriot bags . They do offer a service to have them installed. When they come in, pop the frame in and install bags. No worries about mistakes drilling and measuring. I think it’s about 25.00 Those bags look perfect on that bike.

Very nice and you're right, they look perfect for the Meteor. I'm off to see if those bags are available here in the UK for mine. I recently did a trip for a few days down to the south coast on mine and it never ceases to amaze me, it was a fantastic ride and so comfortable. All I had was a duffel bag over the back seat. Great video as usual.

They look great, a nice piece of kit😊 When I'm carrying bags on the pillion seat I place some sort of grippy mat the sort of thing you'd use in a knife draw car trunk to prevent things rattling around. It holds the bag in place once the bags tied down & prevents it shifting 😉

you need to talk about two grandfathers of meteor. two versions of RE THUNDERBIRD (350/500) Thunderbirds still own Indian roads and Himalayan adventures Thunderbird was introduced in Australia as Rumbler Thunderbird is a cult classic for some of 80s and 90s kids low slung cruisers of same era India circa 90s Kawasaki Eliminator vs Yamaha Enticer vs RE Thunderbird vs Bajaj Avenger 2017 Thunderbird 350 Marine Blue owner here.

The bags look fantastic. Just the sort of retro style I like. And the video is extremely helpful in understanding the mounting system right down to the details of using the template and drilling the holes. I'm not sure if my wife is going to bite on the Meteor idea but she probably would for bags for the Himalayan if they come out with something. Thanks for sharing your experience with them and turning me on to the Longride bags! I have the AirMoto pump, and KemiMoto heated gear. LongRide is next!

Another way to remove worn crosstip or hex screws is to wet tip of screw or hex driver and dip into Clorox or Ajax powder. Really grips screws.

Looks really good, thanks for the details on this upgrade. For long distance (touring) duty, I'd recommend some kind of fork stanchion protection (fork gaiters etc) Most touring bikes have some kind of protection there to keep the fork seals from leaking due to insect debris and rock dings etc on the fork tubes. Leaking fork seals are a bummer.

Ah Ronin, that's an OUTSTANDING setup!! I love how the color schemes come together, and it really dresses up the classic bike, adding classic saddlebags! I wonder how they'd look on my Himalayan? Might not be as classic looking as on their other bikes though. I've already got RE's hard boxes, and when I go off road, I switch to Giant Loop Moto Trek soft bags. On BDR rides and dirt, I never want hard boxes: if you go down, it's too easy to damage them, and then you have no way to secure your gear!

Those are good-looking bags... I went with Trip Machine since they are all leather rather than waxed cotton and if you've ever done waxed cotton it takes a lot more time than conditioning leather (I have a lot of other waxed cotton stuff so it's not my first rodeo). What does it take to maintain waxed cotton? I had the same concern.

@@Gearset807 It's a process of melting the wax, brushing or cleaning the item you are working on, then working the wax into the cotton, letting it sit to dry, and on the following day removing the excess... it's a time-consuming process and if you don't have the time or patience to do it then it's better to avoid it.

This has likely already been mentioned (I didn't read all the comments), but I'd recommend a Forstner bit rather than a spade bit for the 3/4" hole. Makes for a much cleaner hole with less risk of botching the job.

I know color is a matter of personal preference. Did you consider getting the all brown bag to go more with the paint? I like the contrast of the khaki and brown on the bag. Did you at any point consider going with the all brown bag or did the khaki and brown one just pop out to you?

I received my bags and installed them but I did not receive those little things that keep the bags from sliding. Also I didn’t receive any instructions but I was able to figure it out. Did yours come with instructions on mounting the stays to the bike?

I didn’t receive the template. I was a little leery, drilling them out myself, so I asked long ride if they would drill them for me. They were hesitant at first because they said the exact placement depends on the riders preference but I asked them just to go ahead and center it for me on the back. So when I got them in, I just bolted the sidekick panels to the pre-drilled holes and everything fit perfectly for me.
