Longships, The British Navy: from longships to battleships, part one

Our story begins in the 9th century with the establishment of a standing navy, and the creation of administrative areas known as ship sokes, responsible for maintaining a ship and supplying a crew of warrior seamen for the crown.

My brother left home aged 15 to join the Navy and had a Iovely career in his early days I went to H M.the Queens review of the Royal Navy in 1953 and went on board his Destroyer with 😅my mother. I was 13 at the time

@richardstone238 / Remember it as if it was yesterday My brother Ralph the sailor, has now gone but his own family are always asking me about it , a chance of a lifetime even went aboard his Destroyer and had a look round , Queens Cousin was the Captain, Ralph was so proud of that he had been on the Med. For two years so had a good family welcome home .There is a record of the review on the website G

The long ships were based on the Greek Ships that traded with the north, what about the roman war ships, Britain was part of Rome for 500 years or more?
