Levenshulme a once proud place….my friend bought her first house in Longsight when she got married in the late 1960s .We used to go dancing to Levenshulme palace on a Wednesday and Saturday…Never got drunk no drinks were served in the dance halls then. .Well dressed men and lovely dressed ladies. The streets were clean and the shops were lovely ..I have literally cried watching this ,there were only English people there then…So this is what we have become ..I am ashamed to be called English …In twenty years this will no longer be an English country .If I was younger I would be out as fast as my feet would carry me….WHAT A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS……COMING TO A TOWN NEAR YOU SOON.

I'm born and bred Levenshulme but in the 90s and as a kid there were AT LEAST a dozen pubs on Stockport Road. The Palace is now an Asian supermarket and buffet restaurant. We had butchers, locksmiths, pet shops(you might remember Gay-Lyfe?), fishmongers, banks, charity shops etc. now ALL gone. All it is now is takeaways, mobile phone repair shops and barbers. It's embarrassing to say I'm born and raised there because it wasn't like that growing up, it's just beyond recognition now, sad to say it's been wrecked to the point of no return. I moved out a few years back and only drive through it, very occasionally. Thank you for your story and memories about the Palace, I'm not old enough to remember it as a dance house, but old enough to remember it as a nightclub. Have a great day 😀

I just can't imagine what it's like to not have a home to go to. Even if you did me wrong, I would not wish it on you. And it's nice to know there are people out there with love and empathy for the less fortunate. There's a lovely lady who comes to Birkenhead every Tuesday giving out free lunches to the homeless people. Every little helps. Even if I give them a bit of coin, they are very thankful for it. And I'll always speak up for them if anyone treats like shit. We all come into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing. Which is why I don't look down on them. You are doing a great job. A really good video. I know Longsight very well as I only live a few miles down the road. It used to be a really nice area, as you can see by some of the victorian houses, and I'm sure there are still some decent families still there. You can see now that a lot of people don't have pride where they live, with rubbish and smashes glass outside of there house. A shame

This is the norm. The most vulnerable people, indigenous or not are the most affected. 8 million pounds a day is being spent on the illegal arrivals, clean bed, 3 meals, clothed, and pocket money. Imagine if that money was spent on proactive positive ways on the people already living rough in the uk.

There are some that go begging who are not homeless which is wrong as the people who are truly homeless don't get the help they need. As for that bloke at the start of the video he needs to sort himself out if only for his children. I can say this as I was homeless at one point in my ,ife with 3 young children ut I looked for help , had to stay at a friend's house for a year but went to housing got my self on the housing list and I now live in a 3 bedroom house, been here for 18yrs.

New to the podcast so what I am saying might already be the case. Great episode and I have enjoyed a few of your others 👍As a Manchester born lad, the way you are speaking to the homeless and allowing them to share their story is refreshing. Too many people see the homeless problem as THEIR problem as it’s THEIR choices which have led to the situation THEY are in. In most cases this isn’t true. ‘Most’ when looking at the root cause are victims. Not all, but most. Billy you should be doing more of this (like I said I am new to the pod so this may be a regular thing you do) as you are helping educate a lot of people on this matter, along with showing the “comfy” part of society that the homeless situation is rising and will only continue to rise unless we do something about it. Not all want to be helped but I feel by you speaking to them, showing others and hopefully you are pointing them in the right direction for help off the screen. Then you are making a difference so Thankyou 👍😎

Born and bred in gorton all these areas were our playground. There were factories everywhere and when thatcher came to power and decimated these once proud working class areas the business owners sent their manufacturing companies to India and china purely to boost their own profits it took the heart out of these areas, what you are looking at now is the result of political engineering, the proud beautiful people of these areas didn’t do this, the blame lies with politicians and greedy businessmen/women who abandoned the people. Thatcher started the rot the minute she took power. This is her legacy

What?? I’ve seen many black and Asian homeless people on the streets! Don’t be ignorant this is how race wars start!
@fdama

It’s because in other cultures, a family member who is at risk of homelessness will be helped out by the extended family before they become homeless. That’s why you won’t find , for example, Asian people who are homeless. That man has 10 kids and grandkids and they all watch him sleep rough on the streets. It’s sort of like when they throw their “loved ones” in awful care homes. A peculiar culture.
