I'm genuinely impressed. It's great to see a manufacturer make everything in-house, in these days of outsourcing and assemblers calling themselves 'engineering companies.' Mr. Longthorne sounds proper. Great stuff. Enjoyed that.

Written (in yellow ) on the billet which is used for making the action in Jonny’s hand is ‘EN40B’. This was the steel used to make Mini Cooper S crankshafts in the 60’s. Very high quality steel which could be nitrided (heat treated).

What a great presentation of beautiful firearms. As I get older I tend to appreciate custom guns more.In the modern gun world the CNC machine is a reality. We tend to desire a firearm that oozes soul, character is well balanced and something that is a natural extension of ourselves.Longthorne obviously produce beautiful well made firearms that sadly are out of my price range. Thanks for sharing these guns with us.

Liege, Suhl, St Etienne, Ferlach... It's a shame the UK never went that way. I'm in 3D CAD, so seeing all the machines on the shop floor is good to see -- but where were the CAD workstations?Top secret? Longthorne's methods are a much needed advancement and complement to traditional methods. UK wake up! Great video.

Poor Jonny - that shoot has you looking like you're besotten with a princess. ;-) I'll bet a 30" 12 bore in the Celtic pattern would win me over, too. As it is, my budget will probably constrain me to soldiering on with my Remington repeaters, and Japanese and Turkish O/U's. That said, here's hoping that the Longthorne/Stewarts end up with a dynasty on their hands!

Holland & Holland, Purdey, Westley Richards, etc. I suppose Longthorne is below these. But after the man described how the barrels are made with 40 hours into them, I think I'd prefer to buy this gun over those historical, premium names with pedigree. I appreciate and favor modern machining techniques with by-hand finishing over the never-changing 19th century's modus operandi.

I wonder about a combination of side by side & under & over, ie barrels at 45 or 30 degrees?? Birds at left to right or right to left could determine which barrel first or could level the playing field?? Never fired a shotgun - I do Air Rifles but I'm an Engineer. Wouldn't hurt to have a play as your barrels are one piece billets!!

I like the look of this gun however I know my vented barrels get extremely hot on sim days and during clay shooting. Won’t a solid set get even hotter without the ability to let the air circulate around them? Barrel heat haze/distortion can be a real visual issue.

Barrels are traditionally drilled by gun drills which do not follow a pre set course. When drilled they are straightened, reamed and then they are turned outside to bring the outside concentric with the bore. Then they are joined with hard solder with ribs and regulated to shoot to the correct point of aim in the final boring. The process shown here is good for one barrel, but how can the second barrel drilled to be in the correct convergence with the first? The gun drill is at the end of a long shaft which is 29 inches from the driver.

Watching this video through a second time. First time was at initial release on KZbin. Longthorne Gunmakers is just as impressive the second time around. Huge achievement. The last few percent are always a nightmare, regardless of context. People tend to forget that Holland & Holland made their big leap forward in the late 19th century by building their own gun making premises and fitting the workshops out with the latest and best machinery they could afford.
