Longtube headers equal length (almost) , 3 x-pipes , dual megaphone tailpipes, E36 V8 5.0
I made longtube headers for our e36 5.0 swap race car. They are a tri-y, 4-2-1 because otherwise I would need to order a pair of flat 4 into 1 collectors, or spend the time to do a 180* crossover. One of those will happen in the near future.

Literally do what he says in the description. Research Tri-Y headers and how to divide them properly, then do that, with 3 X-pipes, and it'll sound like OP's. Alternatively, look up "Celeritec Corvette exhaust" and watch that, but not the YT shorts version. They have a tri-Y, but instead of merging each side into 1 first (4-2-1), they take the 2 from each side and merge all 4 of them into one big pipe right behind the engine/trans where a normal X-pipe usually goes.

Stepped headers, a quality x pipe, could experiment with a megaphone set up, but the reason why it won't sound like a coyote is because of the firing order.

Would love to know about the benefits of multiple x pipes and megaphones. There's not a whole lot of concrete info out there about the placement of megaphones (close to collectors, midway, or close to tail pipe) as well as the benefit of multiple x pipes. I've got a set of kleemann headers waiting to go on my clk55 and would love to create an exhaust with a good scream, vs the typical straight piped amg v8

Different notes is merely what u get. If more x-pipes was actually a performance secret, you'd see it on expensive shit lol. You can only scavenge so much by merging pipes. Merged pipe length would make a difference. You ever see a superlate race car? They have a screaming v8 with a single pipe out the side.

No, they MUST be 180 degree headers for the equal exhaust pulse

You may or may not also need to have equal length headers with a modification that I'll be posting a short video about in a little while.

Nick Kautz what if you have long tubes already say for example I’m building a road race f150 so I have a lot of room, but with the motor already having long tubes what would the rest of the exhaust consist of in order to achieve this sound?

What mounts did you use for fitting the 302 in the car. What trans/trans mount?

I think we made the brackets ourself and sat them on round poly mounts that we bought. The trans was a T5 WC and that was also a custom mount with poly support

Is that the 5.0 or 351w firing order? What cam is in it? I love the noise!

I’m assuming it’s the 351 if it’s an injected late model Windsor, LS use this same firing order, cylinders are just numbered differently

Foxbody 5.0 , stock bottom , ebay procomp heads , trickflow Stage 3 cam , valvetrain upgrades , 6500rpm redline. Bottom ends kept falling apart , the stock stuff doesn't like rpm especially the crank.

Yeah , foxbody era Mustang 5.0 / 302ci. But any american V8 (cross-plane crankshaft) can sound this way if the headers/exhaust are like this

@@MyHunter9090 it's all about the headers, equal length + an x-pipe should do it. 180-degree headers or a 8-1 collector would work even better, but that's a lot more expensive and complicated.

@@grosano95 Yeah there are some good examples out there of a very nicely done equal length v8 headers. They sound really high pitched. But why do you need an xpipe? what does that do?

@@MyHunter9090 Technically, an X-Pipe will merge the exhaust pulses of each bank of cylinders, creating a more balanced and higher-pitched sound...1+1=2, otherwise you will have 1 and 1 separately. If you have a true dual exhaust on a flatplane V8, it will sound like two 4 cylinders, add an X-pipe or merge those duals into one, and there you go: exotic F1 sound :)
