I was in this band. The dedication, pride and insistence on nothing but perfection have served me well as an adult. Thank you Mr. Kunkel.

I was in the Lobo band that year. In my life I've done many things to be proud of. I've conducted business and met with H. Ross Perot. I've briefed the VP. I've had lunch with the President Bush. I've flown the space shuttle simulator with astronaut John Glen in the one beside me. I've investigated a misplaced WMD and the largest electrical event in the world's history. But I have never, not once, felt the way I did on Friday night as the crowd roared seeing us snap to attention, when we marched toward the stands the audience pinned to their seats. Thank you Mr. K. It's a debt I can never repay.

Boy. What a performance. I grew up in the area, and was a member of neighboring Hallsville High band. Great memories of seeing LHS at the band competitions. That second half of the drill, with the four trumpets being featured was awesome. I had friends and relatives that were in the Longview High band. It was a fun, and memorable time being a bandsman. Hard work, but worth it.

When I was in this band in 2005, we did the exact same gate swings and tailchaser to Purple Pageant, this band did to Action Front. This band as with all of Mr. Kunkel's bands were amazing!!!

I was born in 83, from 87-94, my dad was principal at Lufkin back in the 25-5A days. I LOVED going to Longview for football games and bball games. They had the colliseum for basketball and the bleacher creatures for football. I was sooo jealous we had no bleacher creatures. So, imagine my surprise when my pops ended up in Longview in my 20s... and I ended up there. My bambino was born there... but they been winning this whole band thing... since before my birth, boo. Only dynasty better than Longview Football!! Go LOBO band. I miss hearing y’all practice from my backyard! Y’all do that Glory, Glory Hallelujah thing in eight tre!

Oh, wow, does this bring back memories from so very long ago. I was in John Kunkel's band probably before some of you were even born. I spent 7 years with him as my band director in Cleveland, TX. We had the best band anywhere! I watch this routine and see "my" band doing the same drills. Mr. Kunkel was the best and I will never forget him or the experience of being in his band. I graduated in 1965, so see, it was a long time ago.

I graduated from Killeen High School in 1979 and our directors used to drive over to the Longview Contest just to record the East Texas bands so that they could bring back the tapes for us to watch and emulate. We too, marched military style and this is what our directors wanted us to look like!! Many people pooh-pooh military marching and call it boring. Nothing could be further from the truth. And you have to have one HELL of a band to play those really hard marches w/great technique.

Coming across the field they are playing "Trombone Section" March by Chambers. The start of the second half (with the 4 trumpets) is the trio of the same march. The first full march in the first half is "Troopers Tribunal " by Fillmore.

Great show!! Notice that much of this takes place at intervals of only 2 steps. If the person ahead of you messes up their rank, you had to 'run them over and keep going' I was in the Victoria High School band from south Texas. We marched 8 to 5, but at close two step intervals. Our instructions were if someone was in our spot that didn't belong, just keep on going!!

Would you happen to have any of the other bands from that contest? I was in the band you see across the way, Texas High. We performed just before you guys. My tape frm the show has unfortunately disappeared and I'd sure like to find smthng. Btw, we made ones also-- we were good but were always in awe of you guys.
