Lonnie Mack - Satisfy Susie

Lonnie McIntosh aka Lonnie Mack with his blue eyed soul became the king of the bar band circuit. He played bars around Ohio & Kentucky until he recorded his first album in 1963 called, “The wham of that Memphis man.” Stevie Ray Vaughan said when he played that Whammy bar on that V neck guitar, it sent chills up your spine. Mack died from natural causes on April 14, 2016 (age 74) but his death was overshadowed by superstar Prince, who died on the same day.

It was much more than influence. Stevie joined a long list of great guitar players who called Lonnie Mack their "go to", the one they admitted best. Stevie Ray called him the one guitarist who was his life-long hero.

one thing i always loved about lonnies lead playing is he isnt afraid to come busting out the gate from the first note. guitar teachers always talk about how to "properly" construct solos, one of the big rules being that you start mellow and build the solo up. lonnie isnt afraid to toss that aside and just burn from the first note.

@@unclematt3168 Lonnie certainly didn't copy Freddie King or anyone else. His playing was a mixture of styles . Appalachian music, gospel , blues , rock and roll, country , bluegrass . He was playing in a way that was way beyond anything the bluesmen were playing in the early 60s. If you listen to his early singles you'll hear that he was doing something unique .

@@goggleboy2464 he had a lot of influence on a lot of people who played blues rock electric guitar after 1963. Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Ted Nugent, Etc. He raised the bar for electric guitar playing virtuosity.

Truly one of the best what grate soul he is missed by so many the amazing talent that had was something to see and here he was ahead of his time that was a fact i was told by my father that Lonnie played just as good when he was sixteen years old so just try to wrap your head around that my dad and Lonnie started of in the 50s they got there first record contract togeather i knew Lonnie from the day i was born he carried me in and out of the snow back in those days and latter in life i was so fortunate to spend some time with him one time i will never forget i was going thru a hard in my life my wife had changed the locks put me out i was big time out of control on cocaine and Lonnie sat me right and talked to me when know one else could there no doubt he saved my life he really was there for me we spent hours and days talking about life and put somethings into perspective he was a mentor for me we talked about the loss of Stevie at time it hadnt been that long sents his deaf and Stevie had gotten clean and was doing so good and had some grate things he was doing he was at his best you could see the deference and then to lose his life the way he weighed heavy on the people that knew him Lonnie and Stevie we're had gotten so close i saw a interview with Stevie and he was asked about his relationship with lonnie and Stevie said so proudly that Lonnie was like his dad uncle and best friend all in one looking back on what that statement i felt the same way Lonnie could easily have that effect on a person with the way he was and all living he had done palaces he had been things he saw wow Lonnie told me about the first time working with jim Morrison and recording road house blues man how many people do you know that could tell you about that and that was just few memories that stand out in my mind his soulfulness was real like no other you even dream of and those eyes just the sound of his voice is forever in my mind until the day i die thank for letting me share with you and the world what i know about Lonnie mac there will certainly never be anyone on the face of this earth who could come close to being the man the artist or the legion that Lonnie was thats a fact damon troy seals peace out

Damon, your dad (Troy Seals) was one of the greatest entertainers I ever had the pleasure of seeing. He also wrote some of the greatest songs to ever come out of Nashville. Super talented humble man indeed. You must be proud man! He and Lonnie were two of the greatest of their era, no doubt!

Lol lonnie is definitely forgotten by the masses, if you’re a guitarist or a fan then yea obviously you remember, but in general nobody remembers him. Music publications rarely mention him and if they do its most likely because of a SRV or genre retrospective.

Lonnie McIntosh AKA Lonnie Mack: 7/18/1941 - Widely regarded as one of the most important guitarist in rock and roll history, his pioneering work with the instrument stemmed from his lightning fast picking and revolutionary use of the whammy bar (nicknamed after his revered tune “Wham!”). With his cherished 1963 singles “Memphis” and the aforementioned “Wham!”, Mack practically ushered in what would be known as blues rock all on his own, though he has also visit the likes of country, rockabilly, Southern rock and more throughout his lengthy career. His work with the guitar would go on to influence the likes of Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ted Nugent, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I got to see Lonnie, stevie ray Vaughn, and Greg allman at about 1984 in a park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We piled in a van and drove from college in Fayetteville, Arkansas to tulsa . There were 2 cops there on horseback posing for pics. We brought in a jug of killer punch and such a great vibe there. Got some great pics and memories. I grew up in the 60/70/80s, wouldnt change a thing.

Well I’m listening to the Audio Book called Texas Flood...the story of Stevie Ray Vaughan & I’m listening to Jimmie talking about this gentleman & Reed. So I pause & look them up & under the song list a thing with my name in it will get my attention. So I’m playing it & totally blown away from the first few strokes. I hear Stevie & Double Trouble from the start. Texas Flood alright! The influence this man had on them is so evident! And now I have another new Hero! Suddenly my name sounds pretty sweet! Why couldn’t someone have played this back in my younger days? (70’s & 80’s) The hell with Wake up little Susie, & God forbid, the one every band would play when I came in to work on Friday & Saturday nights! (Waitressing & professionally dancing) “Oh Suzi-Q”! I was always flattered, but honestly, all the customers start singing with the band & the bar tender, & suddenly, I become Chandler Bing: “Could I BE anymore embarrassed “??! No...10 shades of Red! Every time you step, it’s like the song follows our ...”I like the way you walk...!🎤🎵 But if anyone had played “satisfy Suzie” I would have come 💃🏼 Dancing In! Irresistible son& sound! Just want to point out that Scuttle Buttin' predates this. This song was on Mack's 1985 'Strike like Lightning' album, which incidentally was produced by Stevie. He also played on about five songs, including this one. They also did a new recording of Lonnie's 'The wham of the memphis man', which was the first record that Stevie owned, and which he played at basically all his shows in the early 80's. The new recording with both of them dueling on guitars was called 'double whammy!'
