Two notes: 1: Yes, Android 15 is out now so 14 is of course not the newest version. Although many cheap tablets are on much older versions. 2: I will look into the Widevine level when I get back from CES. Saw a lot of you asking about it. One note on this tablet is that it's effectively 720p so it won't benefit much from 1080p content.

For Christmas I got my mother an Onn 11" Tablet Pro 2024 model, and a 64GB MicroSD Card, and it's really nice with the official case, my only big gripe after disabling the kids apps, is the mini games tab in the apps folder you can't get rid of, at least it's fast, and does full 1080p on KZbin TV unlike my aging Nokia T20 tablet. So as long as Walmart keeps these updated for a few years I can say go for one, as they even have a model with 6GB of RAM which is better for gaming.

The big question with these cheap tablets is how they stack up to the Amazon Fire tablets.
@CommodoreFan6417 күн бұрын
I would say much better as they have a more stock build of Android, along with access to the Google Play Store out of the box. I got my mother the 11" model with 4GB RAM/64GB storage, and a 64GB Micro SD card formatted for internal usage, and it's really snappy for all her needs, and even plays KZbin TV in full 1080p 60Hz smoothly. I've not tried gaming on it sense it's not mine but based on Lon's video on the 3GB model it should be fine, I will not the 11" pro model does come with Kids space, and KZbin kids preinstalled that you need to disable(can't be uninstalled), and in the app draw there is a tab for a bunch of gotch time wasting mini games you can ignore, otherwise after the updates it has near stock Android 14 on it.
@JohnBodoni17 күн бұрын
it depends on what you're looking for, maybe? i've bought the seven and eight inch fire tablets and was looking for a reader that would fit in my pocket and play nicely with the google ecosystem. these purchases were made... a year, year and a half ago? they worked okay, if a little slowly. i even bought sd cards to try to free up as much internal storage as possible. i'm not a big movie media downloader (again, my primary use was reading kindle books) but i wanted as much performance as possible. again, the fire tablets were okay. i purchased a seven inch onn tablet on a whim a few months ago. i used it the same as i'd used the fire tablets but i didn't bother purchasing an sd card. i'm really happy with the onn tablet, to the point where i've given away my seven inch fire; i'm still debating keeping the eight inch version. your mileage may vary, of course, depending on how you're using the device. to me, shoehorning the google play stuff onto the fire tablet always had me worried that the next os update from amazon would force a reload, or disable the google stuff entirely. i don't have to worry about that any more.

Hello Lon. Another informative review. Thank you. But I want to caution you and your viewers about this and other ONN tablets. I bought a 7 inch ONN tablet and connected it to a wireless keyboard. I discovered while using the wireless keyboard that it was not possible to click on any tabs on the right side of the screen. I returned the 7 inch tablet and purchased the 10.1 inch tablet. I also connected a wireless keyboard as well as a wireless mouse. I had the same problem with not being able to open a tab on the right side of the screen. I also used other wireless keyboards and mouse and received the same negative response. I spoke with two well qualified computer professionals and they surmise there is a software problem with the ONN tablets. Yes, I could have used the touch screen function, but felt if there was this problem, what other problems might there be? I'm now using a Lenovo P11 with factory wireless keyboard.

@ I got the 11" version for my mother as a Christmas gift with the official rugged case, and it's been really snappy, and nice even with just 4GB of RAM, just make sure to get a least a 64GB SD card, and format it for internal storage, but you'll also have to use a dongle for wired headphones for it as well. When my Nokia T20 finally gives up the ghost, I'm thinking about the 12.1" version as it has 6GB of RAM, but I am worried how long Walmart will give these support, as it's not been that great in the past, and it's something they could do to really stand out in the budget tablet sector, as do give their Android streaming boxes fairly decent software updates.

My main issue with Android tablets is the update support. I returned my Google Pixel tablet and bought a Microsoft Surface Go 2 because the Android tablet would have only gotten 3 years of securitty updates and1.5 years of OS updates. Microsoft's Surface tablet however doesn't have an expiry date for updates and it's a full-fledged PC as well. OH! And the Microsoft Surface Go 2 has a headphone jack...dunno why tablets are removing those... Still, good video Lon. I just thought I'd get my thoughts on Android tablets off my chest,

Flagship Samsung tablets have now 7 years of updates, on par with flagship iPads and better than base iPads (which get 5 years instead of 7). I own a surface go 2 M3. We don't know how long windows 11 will last and if it's upgradable to windows 12. If it's like windows 10 it will last until 2031 so another 6 years. On Android security is much less important than on Windows as it's a much more locked devices and apps tend to remain compatible for a very long time.
@StaceyAyodele17 күн бұрын
@@_Digitalguy My main issue with the Google Pixel tablet and Android is that you don't get a lot of support. Samsung tablets are expensive as heck tho...an S9 is almost $1000. I like my Surface Go 3. @@StaceyAyodele yeah but the issue with the go 2/3 is that battery life is short and speakers are not great. S9 (which I bought used for $400) has much better battery life and speakers. Still if Microsoft makes a Surface go with ARM I'll buy that. But not with Intel.
