I love that so much! As soon as I own a car (some day ... haha) I wanna drive to the countryside and do the same! It's so great for the piggies and it's so close to what they'd eat in nature :)

What a wonderful video! I absolutely love the idea of foraging, but I don't trust myself enough to pick out plants that are safe. I'm going to have to research this well because it would not only be such a healthy additive to my boys' diets, it would be so much fun as well!!

is there a bad grass to give ive been researching but i can't seem to find a type of grass that grows in my garden
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Just don't feed any grass thats been fertilised, dogs have used or is near wild rabbits. The various grass types are basically the thicker grass, long grass, short grass, thin grass, grass that looks like wheat etc.. All is fine for them :) xx

+LooBoosShedZoo ok thanks very helpful. They had grass yesterday and they absolutely loved it.

Great video. I'm glad you washed your forage. I have always soaked what I gather for a couple of hours to make sure it's throughly clean. Also for people with rabbits don't forage if you are in an area with a vhd or vhd2 outbreak as you could give your rabbits this deadly disease unknowingly. Hope people understand how deadly ragwort is and don't pick it by mistake. Love they way you researched everything throughly x
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much :) Yes I agree, I've always soaked and washed everything fresh for my animals! That's a very good point for rabbit owners, although I didn't mention it none of the forage I picked was anywhere near where the wild rabbits live and eat. I think it's always best to be on the safe side with guinea pigs too as you don't know what other things could be passed on. Also if there are wild rabbits in the area, there are very high chances of other wildlife thriving in that area such as hedgehogs and foxes for example, so it's definitely much safer to stay away from any well known inhabited areas. Thanks for your comment, really appreciate it! xx

At 10:48 when you're talking about the milk thistle you picked, from what I can see from a video there are plantain leaves mixed in with it. Plantain is a safe weed to feed as well. Looks like it went really well. Like others have mentioned I can really only forage from my own garden knowing that no other rabbits are ever in there and the concern of calicivirus. Would love to be able to forage like this though :) I've been transplanting dandelion and plantain from my lawn into the garden bed for safe keeping.

Loved this vlog! :) So nice to see that you are incorporating lots of natural plants into your guinea pigs' diet! It looks like they loved all of the variety too. Unfortunately I can no longer collect forage as where I live there just isn't enough (as most of the plants are out of season now), so they are back onto veg again, but I am looking forward to collecting more next year. Could I ask where you get that wooden hay feeder from? I was looking for something just like that xx
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much :) and thanks for the help with this, I really appreciated your opinions and guidance! The guinea pigs seemed extremely happy and healthy having the forage more frequently in their diet and I have managed to continue collecting it on a regular basis for them. I'm beginning to collect some now to dry out ready for the winter, so that they can still have a little treat once I have to use veggies every day again. Aw that's a shame that the forage where you live is out of season now! I'm making the most of it in my area for now until that happens, luckily my family seem to have a selection of weeds and herbs growing in the garden making the foraging much easier for me! Do you mean the yellow one with pastel colours? I have so many that I'm not sure which one you've seen hehe! If it's that one, it's one I made / designed myself xx

Thank you so much! Yes it's always good to have a variety of opinions before trying something yourself :) They honestly absolutely loved the mint, it was a great hit amongst them all. I would definitely recommend giving it a try x

Hi, i havent watched the entire video yet but at 10.44, what you say is coltsfoot looks like: Jacobaea vulgaris, which is a very poisenous plant... I hope you check this to be sure its not that! I'm not sure, but i'm kind of worried.. For the rest the foraging looks great! I do it with my rabbits and guinea pigs to and they love it! :)
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for informing me on that, but I can definitely assure you that it was 100% a coltsfoot plant.. As well as thoroughly researching before and after foraging, it is well known locally that the area I picked it from is completely overgrown with coltsfoot, I've known how to identify them since being a child but we used to call them spikey yellows because of the way they look. I used to forage regularly 4 years ago for my animals so I have a good amount of experience, it's just getting back into the swing of it! As well as that I always throughly research things before using them with the pets or showing things in videos , I have owned, fostered, and cared for Guinea pigs for over 10 years and I've learnt a lot about them :) Mine love it so much too, it's been such a beneficial experiment in terms of providing a more natural balanced diet xx

25:59 can anyone tell me what breed of guinea pig the one between what looks like a black and white sheltie (or Peruvian I'm not sure lol) and the white black and ginger Abyssinian (I think) guinea pig? It kind of looks like my new guinea pig and I don't know what mine is because I'd never seen one before :)
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Casper is an Alpaca :) He is a curly coated peruvian, they are much rarer than other breeds but are absolutely adorable with fluffy curly hair ! xx
@beccalouise90558 жыл бұрын
Yay! I'm pretty sure mine's an alpaca but on so many websites, they're mentioned as an "unofficial" breed. I'm fairly sure mine is an alpaca (especially now!) do you have to trim an alpaca guinea pig's fur? I'm unsure about that xx
@LooBoosShedZoo8 жыл бұрын
Aw that's brilliant if you have an Alpaca! I've never spoken to anyone else who owns one :) They are my favourite by far! Yes you're right, they aren't an official breed as of yet but it's slowly becoming more well-known! Yes, I would suggest trimming the fur throughout the summer to keep your guinea pig cool and keep around the bum area trim all year round. I would recommend someone helping you hold the guinea pig while you do it, it doesn't have to be really short, just manageable so that you can groom them with ease x
@beccalouise90558 жыл бұрын
Thank you so so much! I was researching about them after I got him just to try to figure out his breed. I actually got him from a pet shop (I know, not the best) but I had to get a baby because I have 2 adults and I couldn't find any near me but also, he wasn't very planned. I mean, I was secretly going to convince my mum when we got there but you know.... Anyway, everyone was saying that it's unusual to find them in pet shops so I'm very glad I managed to get him! I'll have a video posted tomorrow (hopefully if he's not too shy to take a few clips to overlay) so you could just have a little look at him and double check for me? I'm very curious! He feels a bit like a sheep aha! :)
