Top man ! Good for you, helping the elderly. Just because they're old doesnt mean they dont deserve the greatest of respect. After all they raised us oiks 😂 Love to hear you repiared it for under £30. They'll probably be so used to that tv and how it works. Just saving them the agro of hunting for a other one similar will have been worth their £29. And to not have to re learn how to use it will ve priceless for them. Love that !

Amazing, I would have thought 'no way' for a new board, also surprised by the damage, the last one or two I've done just had the main filter cap all dried up, biggest challenge was finding one of the right dimensions.

I recognise that set. "Clearance Bargains" (an outlet store run by Argos in the North East) were selling these brand new in around 2019 (just before the virus) for £19.99. Kind of wish I'd bought one, but I really had no use for it even at that price!

It's good to see there's still TV repairers like yourself, I repaired TV's in the 80's. Occasionally I visit the recycling centre here in Plymouth, there is mountains of flat screen TV's there every time I visit, such a waste😢

More often than not, when the blue caps next to the chopper blow, they kill the mosfet as well, and sometimes some other smd nearby,it's either the snubber or south else.So two options, either replace the whole primary part after the big filter cap with an str series ic to drive the chopper,or use a primary side bypass small board from Ali express, that does the same.As for older customers,I always have in stock some used or repaired cheap non smart sets from 20" to 32" so I can sell them to old people for cheap the sam day.And I keep their old set,to repair it in my spair time,if it's cost efficient so I can pass it to another old person etc.The point is to keep them from being without a tv for as little time as possible.people in their late 70s or older can't see well to read a book or the newspaper, and can't go for long walks to pass the time, especially here in Greece during summer. In July and August it's so hot that during daytime especially in the city, old people are literally in danger during prolonged outdoors stay.

Hmm. Did they really use sot-23 as switch transistor. Looked it vanished with fireball (markings on the mains cap). Maybe that shorted snubber network cap was where it all started. First shorted and then open or fuse blow. Also took that resistor and sot-23 component. Those are my ques based on of component locations and how they died. Edit: It seems switch transistor is top on board near transformer. That sot-23 maybe on switch transistor driving circuit. But pretty big damage on mains side of psu.
