I have had my Trike for 3 months. It has been a learning curve. The G force in a turn is real. I tried leaning into a turn which is a little more stress on steering, and I tried leaning away from turn(leaning towards the side I push . I just recently rode the Asphalt Rollercoaster near Skyline Dr in Virginia, and there is a 3 or 4 mile stretch that is like the Dragon. I was going 45 to 50 miles per hour through most of the turns and I used my lean away from turn technique and the trike handled like a go cart. The hardest part is getting over the fear of it tipping over which it didnt . I also learned if I go into turn at speed in high RPMs and not accelerate until after i was almost through it I was good. Acceleration straightens it out and in the turn the force is greatly magnified in steering .

Trikes are cool pieces of machines. They are visible, comfortable to ride, and have plenty of storage. I'm having the time of my life on my Trike. It's worth every dollar spent.

I was a two wheel rider for a number of years. My last two bikes were a Goldwing and a Road Glide. I like both but preferred the Road Glide. My wife was never comfortable on two wheels so I I bought a TriGlide a couple of months ago. She now rides with me and enjoys herself. A trike is not a two-wheeler and in some ways it's harder to ride than a two-wheeler. I miss the ease of leaning but got to the point where I was less than comfortable with the weight of a heavy bike and a smaller bike wasn't for me. I'm 60 and the trike is a better fit for me. Take it from me, the TriGlide is definitely a motorcycle.

Yes, one of the comments Dwayne made was that when sitting in the riders seat there was every sense of being on a bagger. The difference is in the curves, no leaning, which many folks think take the fun out of riding....but there is a different kind of fun on a Trike.

I just turned 50 and switch from my ultra to the Tri glide because I wanted to. I'm physically able to ride two wheels. wish I would have done it 20-30 years ago so much more relaxing and fun to ride

I took a three wheel course. We spent a lot of time practicing leaning our bodies into the turn as a countermeasure to the centrifugal force we experience when cornering. This was really stressed when executing swerve maneuvers. I am convinced that when my passenger and I lean into the turns the trike handles better Take the course. You will understand just how much you don’t know or have forgotten about riding.

Great advice! In an evasive (swerve) maneuver leaning to the inside will help keep that inside rear tire on the ground. In normal, everyday riding (at or near the speed limit) leaning to the inside is not necessary to keep the tire on the ground, but it may feel better to the rider and passenger in countering the centrifugal force felt. The Harley Tri Glide and Freewheeler are incredibly stable machines. We've never encountered a curve, that when taken at the speed limit, even came close to testing the limits of their stability. I got myself a 2018 Ann used Trike, I have done extensive amount of reading about Trikes and how to ride, what to and not to do. This Trike the owner prior had a slipper clutch fitted with a stage 2 kit. It is fast on take-off and with the Slipper clutch (he said) with the front wheel keeps it planted on the ground, instead of lifting off. I also fitted a lift kit to raise the back and assist with the steering, which also made a huge difference. Especially when taking the bends and curves, when i first picked this Trike up i spent 6.5 hours riding and at night from Sydney area to Tamworth in Australia. I had no issues riding the trike as i treated it like riding my 2 wheels when it came to changing gears and braking and knowing very well how to steer and the big arse mommy at the rear. Next day i had Riden all day/night from Tamworth to my hometown which was a good 9-hour ride, stopping to refuel and keep on travelling. I had taken this Trike on all different types of road conditions and checking how it handled and different speeds. I got myself a beauty and was quite impressed with the performance and handling. Thanks DK Customs i have learnt and put into action what it is that you put out there. I still ride 2 wheels always enjoy the Trike and is now set up for towing the camper trailer. I am young in my 50s, You do not have to wait until your older to transition. I find the Trike is much safer to be seen then two wheels. I recently experienced riding in heavy rain with the Trike and the braking is not good has the water gets caught up in the rear wheels, these Trikes are not made for those conditions, does not matter how much riding experience a person has.

Here in Australia it is against the law to turn tyres around facing the incorrect direction and businesses would not risk their license by fitting a tyre incorrectly.

Thanks guys, really good video. I'm 73 yrs. old and just bought a HD trike. I've been riding since I was 17 on 2 wheels, but I just don't have the strength in my legs to balance at stops like I had before. I went to my local HD dealer and test drove a trike and it really felt weird. I got one anyway figuring I would get used to it. Again, thanks, great video.

The last motorcycle I rode was in 1988 and that was an '81 CB 750. I had no riding experience until I bought my 2020 TriGlide on 11/01/2019. And because I hadn't ridden in such a long time, the Tri Glide was so easy as I had nothing to get "used to" and felt like I had been riding 3 wheels forever. Ride safe.

After 48 years on two wheels Imoved onto 3 wheels 2 years ago, big tourers were becoming to heavy when stationary. In the UK Harley trikes are rare, most being conversions of two wheelers, but I went for an even rarer make and Bought a CanAm Spyder RT reverse trike. Never took any classes (none available anyway) just around 10 minutes in the dealers grounds getting used to the steering and reverse then straight on to the road for a 180 mile drive home. I learned early on to lean into the curve and use my outboard leg to brace myself in the turn. A few differences from your descriptions of riding your trikes, there is no low speed wobble (or any speed) from the front, steering is precise at all times. The Spyder has a proper reverse gear as part of the normal gearbox so no lack of power reversing up hills. All braking is done using a single foot pedal so the correct amount of braking to each wheel is always right and full ABS is fitted as it should be to all modern bikes. There is also a full stability system built in allowing full recovery from bad cornering without the bike flipping as standard trikes are prone to. Your comment that a trrike can corner faster than a two wheeler may be true for Harleys but doubtful for sports bikes. Having spoken to a couple of TriGlide riders one comment both made is that steering is very heavy to the point of being tiring on longer journeys. The Spyder is power assisted steering so much lighter and doesn't lead to sore shoulders after a few hundred miles. In fact one Harley rider said that he had test ridden a Spyder and found it too sensitive for him to handle. I initially found it sensitive until I leaned to relax and stop gripping the handgrips tightly. While I find it more tiring than riding a 2 wheeler even a hard days riding doesn't leave me sore and exhausted. As an example of hard riding I toured the Austrian and Swiss alps this summer with one day crossing 5 1/2 alpine passes (around 170 miles with constant hairpins, climbing and descending) One other advantage, at least at the start, of the reverse trike setup is judging the extra width. With the twin front wheels in front of you it is easier to see the clearance than having them at the back where you can't see them.

I converted my ultra to a wheels forward trike like a Can Am Spyder… Way better than a standard trike for steering, handling, braking etc. I demoed the new Triglide and didn’t care for it. Of course this is just my opinion. I still love my CVO street glide on 2 wheels for bombing around town. Thanks for this video!

Good video guys. You should explain how the braking works on a trike. When you push the rear brake pedal you do apply brakes to the front and rear wheels because of the hydraulically linked brake system. The front caliper actually has 6 pistons to allow this. When you apply the front brake you only brake the front wheel. So it's best to use the rear brake pedal on a trike.

Thank you, Good explanation. The pre-2014 Trikes do not have the linked brakes, the 2014 + do have what you describe. Additionally, the 2014+ do apply some front brake when the rear brake pedal is used, but to get all the braking of the front, and to develop good habits for muscle memory in emergency situations, it is best to use both the brake pedal and the front brake lever.

Thank you both for your insights into riding a trike. I am 71 years old, I ride a 2007 Fatboy & I can see where I will have to go to a trike, if I want to extend my riding life. I may convert the Fatboy to a Frankenstein Trike, since that cost much less than the current cost of a used Tri-Glide. I will decide when that time arrives, where I no longer feel 100%, on two wheels. Great videos both part 1 & 2.

Yeah I rode year round for a few years and Mid-West winters required 3 wheels to not be totally insane. I opted for a Ural Gear-up for bad weather. Plus 2 wheel drive was good for snow drifts. Reverse was nice! Parking brake required. Sidecar rig can truly mess with your head going from three wheeler dynamics back to a two wheeler instantly when/ if car flys! First time that happens you’ll add a few no handed pleats in your seat cushion! Ural could get crazy low speed slowing down - damper and front tire pressure vital! Nothing better than riding everyday regardless of weather- only decision was which U- the Ultra or Ural! Salted roads was the real killer of the experience!

When riding my 2020 Tri Glide I find it easiest to turn left by locking my right arm and pulling with my left arm. Likewise turning right I lock left arm and pull with right arm. It makes the turning effort easier than the pushing and pulling technique mentioned in video IMHO. Great video and appreciate your products and contributions to the riding community.

@@DKCustomProducts I'm so use to the lock arm technique that in long, short or any type of turns I just pull and turn the bike where I need it to go. In short tight maneuvers like parking lots both arms remain bent and the push/pull technique works just fine with ease.

Started with a trike (the same one you have, in fact) in November. This is after 50+ years on 2 wheels, mini bikes and motorcycles. Thanks for the advice. But nothing prepared me for the riding style going from 2 to 3. I just could not get the hang of not leaning and guiding at first. Now that spring has sprung, I plan on getting my fundamentals down pat before my long ride this summer.😂 FYI, I had a stroke 3 years ago and loss most of my balance capabilities. But with the trike, I can keep riding!!!

I tried a trike at dealership lot , WTF, and then your feet want to go down and leaning as I was turning handle bar's those where 2 bad habits of mine! I was driving in circles freaking out ! Return trike immediately due to inexperienced on my part! Want to give it a another try this spring! Keeping my feet on floor board coming to a stop! I enjoy your videos! I seen a couple of cam-am conversion on baggers,yuck what a sin to Harley! Those Polaris slingshot are like driving a formula 1 car and low to the ground that truck's , SUV ,s don't see you at all ! The biggest drawback of the Tri Glide is stirring on mountains curvy roads. The stirring sucks in curves. It will give your arms a workout even to the point of making your forearms sore. Other than that, it is a fine ride.

Yes, they take more effort to steer. But you can do a few things to lessen the amount of effort needed. Use a Convertible Comfort Lift - www.dkcustomproducts.com/harley-trike-lift-kits-c56-64.htm Use the Comfort Triangle to get the ergonomics right. I just bought a 2011 Trike. And what you're describing about braking is totally opposite to what I've experienced. I find more effective braking using the front brakes as opposed the rear. The rear will hardly stop the trike at all, but the front is where most of the stopping power comes from. This 2011 doesn't have linked brakes, do maybe what you're describing involves linked brakes which if you use the rear pedal gives you two of the six pistons in front also. But if you use the front brake it gives the four pistons in front only.

Something is wrong with your rear brakes, or perhaps you are not pushing hard enough on the pedal? I've had a 2011 Tri Glide, a 2014 Tri Glide and now a 2019 Tri Glide. You definitely had to push the pedal much harder on the 2011 for the rear brakes to work...and they did not have as good a feedback, but it was possible for me to lock up the rear tires with the rear brake on my 2011...and that was with stock pads. On a Trike, if you put the front brakes on hard (emergency stop) and the surface is wet, or there is any debris on the road, they will lock up much easier than on a 2 wheeler. The sound and feel of a big HD V Twin is something I'm not going to want to give up. So, a trike will be in my future someday (if I live long enough!) A question, we know how fast motorcycle tires wear out. And we've heard about "the dark side" which is putting car tires on a bike. I think it's a bad idea on a conventional bike but how about a trike ? It would seem to me to work well and getting maybe 35 or 40,000 miles out of them instead of the usual 6 or 7,000 would be a big money saver. I'm heading down to West Virginia in 3 weeks for a 5 day blast through the hills. And of course, my tires are almost at the worn out point. Hah my timing never fails !!! ✌

My bro put car tires on rear & sez they hold the road good. The tire dealer compared numbers & sold a set that look like the old Dunlop originals. We live in prime riding country, Pa.so they get tested regularly. Half the cost over harley dunlop.I have heard pros & cons about running car tires. Remember what Kevin said about tourqing the wheels after 50 miles. I also heard about wheel coming off while riding.

I know of folks that put car tires on Goldwings. Not very common at all on Harley 2 wheelers. On the Harley Trikes the rear tires are car tires, and you can expect to get 40-60K miles out of them For a front tire on a Harley Trike, check out this video...kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4u6dXWpmJt1e7s I have worn out half the tread on a Harley Trike FRONT OEM tire in 1 weekend of aggressively riding in the Twistys. So, for me, I don't use the OEM front tire on a Trike. Have fun on your trip to West Virginia! 👍

Interesting about the re- torque’n the back wheels,.. i took my fusion in for maintenance and as i went to leave i felt something off with the steering, my son was with me and i ask him to get out and see if he could see what it may be, I didn’t roll the car two feet and he started waving stop ! They hand tightened the front wheel and didn’t torque the lug nuts,.. i was pretty upset with them

I rode a 2015 Harley Freewheeler about 4 weeks ago after doing repairs on it. After riding it 30 miles to the owner I can say that it is very painful to ride with it's solid axle rear end. My 2005 FLHRCI is better over bumps and holes. If I go to a trike it will have to have IRS. Oh and I had the air in the shocks and tires set at the Harley recommended pressures.

@@fogit4668 Ah, I know what you experienced. I normally keep 20-21 psi in my rear tires. I was riding back and forth to the shop for a few days and the ride quality was pretty bouncy. I thought that I had a shock that had sprung a leak, and not happy with that at all. Before inspecting the shocks I checked the psi in my rear tires...one was at 17 and the other at 15. I aired them up to 21 each and went for a ride...and it was back to a great ride quality. Having too little psi will make for too much sidewall flex and give a very bumpy ride. Of course, having good shocks and a Convertible Comfort Lift™ are also major factors in ride quality improvement also.

@@DKCustomProducts One of the things we fixed on the Freewheeler included putting the Convertible Comfort Lift on. I should be getting another opportunity to ride it. The rear rocker box gasket (James) has failed. So I will be fixing that. At that time I will put more air into the shocks and bring the tires up to 20psi. Thank you for the help.

Good deal, the Comfort Lift will make it a bit more plush a ride. Tires will help too. Air shocks is just a matter of experimenting to find the best PSI for weight and road conditions. Bummer about the gasket leak, but that one is fairly easy to replace.

Yes you can! If you do a google search "harley davidson wheelchair trike" you can find many images of folks that have done that. We have not done one ourselves, so cannot vouch for any particular company making kits...but there are quite a few out there. Great video! I have been riding 2 wheels for 30+ years, however due to getting older and knees getting not so stable anymore I am looking to convert to a trike in the next year or so. My dad has a 2017 tri glide and he is looking to go to a goldwing trike because he like the smoother ride of them since they have the IRS rear suspension over the HD trike straight axle suspension. I will probably end up buying his tri glide and selling my Ultra. I have ridden his tri glide and I see what he was talking about it being very rough on the rear. I noticed in your video you mentioned having a better suspension than the HD stock. Would you mind telling what you did to make yours better? I have read a lot about pro action shocks and heard they are a lot better than the stock. The only other thing I have thought is to let him sell his tri glide to someone else and might just take my Ultra to CSC and let them convert to trike...ideas or thoughts? Thanks bud!!

We co-developed the 14" Trike Series Shocks™ about 5 years ago in conjunction with Pro Action to improve the ride quality. Thousands are now enjoying a much improved ride because of them. There is a learning curve and you do have to get use to the difference in riding, but all in all it doesn't take much.

Excellent video. Appreciate the info, especially about checking lug-nuts after service. Been on Harley Triglides since 2011 (had a 2012 and now a 2016) with about 200,000 miles (retired) total. 1. I think 2 wheels are still more fun but the bugs taste the same and you get just as wet on 3 wheels. 2. Riding 3 wheels vs 2 wheels is like making love wearing a condum. It’s still great, but it is different. :) Can’t wait to see part 2.

Yes, we did determine that the trike veering in the opposite direction during a sharp turn with hard rear braking is part of the Traction Control System. It senses that because of the sharp maneuver, along with the hard braking, it is about to lose traction and compensates for it. The software update did not fix it. HD says the system is not the problem...I am the problem for making to abrupt of a maneuver, that I should not do it, but if I do, the system will save me from myself. It is not unlike so many of the nanny systems found on so many cars these days.

I just bought a 2017 Harleyy tri glide. We just had the legends air rear suspension, front fork suspension, and lift kit. I'm looking for a video of someone riding hard around curves while explaining what they are feeling. I keep slowing down in the curves because I feel like I'm going to slide off of the curve. HELP!

Where is my parking brake, 2000 HD Electra Glide Trike. Dealer didn't show me that. Also, I saw your video on tire pressure for the rear, you recommended 20 to 22. What should the front tire be at?

There is no 2000 HD Trike. HD did not start making trikes until 2009. Sounds like you have a Trike Conversion kit put on your Electra. You will want to get with who ever made the conversion kit to get parking brake and PSI info. Wish we could be more help, but there are many different conversion kits out there, and each one is a little different. Thanks for watching and commenting. Paperwork the prior owner had in the trunk (I think I'm just the second owner, original owner converted to Trike in 2006) anyway, he had the envelope with info on the conversion. Written on it, he has 28 psi REAR and 41 psi FRONT. Not sure about the front, but I will probably try dropping the rear to 22 like you say in your video. I don't know about feeling like the Trike wants to throw me off, but it feels like (or I'm just psyching myself out), that the rear is gonna lift a tire, and I'm not taking curves fast at all, you'd say very slow. Gonna be a real learning curve from my prior 2 wheeler (2015 Honda PCX-150).

I've had a triglide for a while now. Its not hard to steer. You can get into trouble trying to steer too hard. When people describe steering one they make it sound like you have to really work hard at it. Not a good way to explain it. Someone new may get the wrong idea...

Yes, everyone is different. As many age they have reduced upper body strength, OR, they may have an injury, OR they may have some sort of handicap. For many, (not everybody) a reduction in steering input effort, especially at low speed, is welcome.

I just went thru that with 2 other people on their tri-glides. Best thing I can tell you is to slow down & turn emergency flashers on.

It is the same as if you are on a bagger, but more stable. We have been in many a downpour on our Tri Glides. As with any vehicle, slow down, use flashers, and if it is cold, hope you have rain gear. A few years ago we rode over a mountain pass in the middle of summer and it started snowing pretty heavy. We slowed down (no where to pull off) and kept on our way. At the bottom of the pass, where it was no longer snowing, we had about an inch of snow caked onto the front of the Tri Glide. Dunno what we would have done if we were on 2 wheels...probably pulled over and hoped we did not get hit. I have not heard this rumor before. Trikes have been HD's fastest growing segment, I doubt they will be doing that anytime soon. It is a profitable model for them.

So basically, if you don't ride like a dick head or above your capabilities in a curve, you'll be fine. Example, where I live there's a "S" curve at 55mph, if I take it at 55 or 60, the trike shouldn't tip, should handle it just fine

Great video guys I moved to a trike in 2016 after 50 years of riding but I did find that if you just ease up on the throttle in a turn mid way(that is if you’re running hot into a turn) and you will be amazed how it will go into turn easier if that makes any sense.
