He is a legend in every sense, Crawford did all his own stunts and was a very physical actor. And even after all his success on broadway with phantom of the opera, he is still proud of Frank Spencer, which i admire as any other actor would have gone egotistical, and ignored his comedy roots.

Some of these actors I don't think watched the complete series. As they ask how did Betty decide on Marrying Frank? one of the episodes covered the courting of Frank and Betty. Frank lived with his aunty, Frank met Betty while Horse Riding after frank lost his horse, and got thrown off into a creek. Betty picked him up after riding past. It showed their friendship begin and thats mearly what they both wanted, betty took up horse riding to meet friends, Frank Spencer took up horse riding to get out more. Betty liked Franks total honesty. That and their friendship led to betty falling in love with Frank. People who didn't approve of Frank and Betty was Betty's mother, who made it clear first meeting Frank, as Betty's mother Disliked Frank's mother with a passion yelling Not the Spencer's, Betty franks mother was a loonitic. And Frank's Aunty who yelled out to Betty, don't think his got any money? Then after Betty stuck up for herself saying she didn't care about his money, and was with Frank because she liked him.

Yes David Jason was considered I'm not sure if he auditioned, Norman Wisdom was as well. I know Linda Hayden who played the secretary in the first episode 'The job interview' did audition to play Betty alongside Michelle Dotrice who of course got the part.
