U can beat the barrel felynes with throwing knives

a barrel felyne can spawn on your "talisman/charm route" where there is 3 ores (near where the den can spawn)

Gravios/Black Gravios have Heat Beam, which ignores defense, allowing you to take out two Barrel Felynes a turn if you Channel the gene onto one of your Monsties (or just use Gravios in general) Black Gravios in particular has a Heat Beam variant that hits all enemies, but it's extremely expensive on the Kinship so you're unlikely to be able to order him to use it out the gate.

The Heat Beam skills also work for freeing barrel felynes! They ignore defense so if you have a monstie with Heat Beam attack one and you attack the other, you can reliably defeat at least two felynes.

@@Polopollo75 Most Basarios/Gravios species have some kind of heat beam attack! I use the one from Black Gravios, the single target one bc it has no accuracy debuffs iirc

@@pilidod how do you charge your kinship to use the beam though? barrel cats run in 2-3 turns and u need to build 36 kinship guage, + wait 1 turn to charge before the beam fires. I've seen this tip so many times but never did anyone explain how to do it

@@Potato_tomato_rice0101 I dont use the charged spread beam. I use the single-target one that costs around 15 gauge. It's a level 1 move for Black Gravios I believe.

@KiddPhilly 688 That too, but I personally use the single-target in general play for having a high burn chance and being able to do double attacks. Spread beam would definitely be better for hitting all in one turn though :)

these guys have multiple spawn points from what i've experienced in pomore garden. 1) right in front of you when you spawn in from the catavan. 2) around the big trees where theres 2 crimson qurupeco 3) near lagiacrus as shown in the video

Thanks for pointing out the other two spots! I kept going to the caravan and just going to the area with the Lagiacrus, never saw one there. Saw this comment and went to the area near the two Pecos and boom there was one walking there!

@@pheonixeternal8981 I've already been defeated few times by taking on side quest (hard) powerful monsters although I'm still early game. Just hit level 21 and have been grinding collectathon side quests for XP

The level cap is 99 in MH:S2. Do note that in PvP, you are locked at lvl 50 for both your hunter and monstie. You will be either deleveled or increased in level to even the playing field when doing that. So raising your level above 50 only helps you in PvE. As of course if you're high enough, you can just fast kill enemies.

if you use a black gravios spread heat beam it will kill all felynes if it isnt low level on turn one, no need to waste bombs since the great felynes only have 40hp

Elder's Trial Z5, if you look at the map where Velkhana is it's up past that and there's a glacial agnaktor blocking the entrance, they seem like a very rare spawn though, I've only seen them once.

For anyone needing mega barrel cats, Here are a couple of locations for spawns. Elders lair z1 near the pink and azure raths from looking at them turn to the right and in the middle of a grass area is the spawn point, Elders lair z8 just past the grimclaw tigrex there are three dead ends the one that goes downhill has a possible spawn point, the Z8 spawn is probably the best as its the shortest distance out of any I've seen.

You can crit them too apparently, I just got one yesterday, think my narga was around lvl 40-42 and crit one for 17 dmg and killed it(there was a group of 3). So mabye after you hit a certain damage threshold, but idk, just telling you what happened randomly while I was trying to bomb em all before any of them ran, and my narga got one lol.

In felyne shelter there is a quest to free one, I didn't find any before that, but I also wasn't looking for them so I'm not sure if they already spawned

maybe try a knife on the lower level ones and then a monster skill (non basic attack)? this worked in the first game, knife was bad on great ones but those were post game so didnt matter by then as barrel bombs were easy to get idk if quick finish ever shows for the lower end ones since i havent found one yet

Barrel bombs are really easy now. I just farm the Legiana multiplayer quest and get loads of them it’s very easy

Apologies for double post/ comment, but i spent a little bit farming barrel cats and found some tips to secure the encounters: make sure to use fly instead of going by foot to check the spawns quickly. this lets you reach the cat spawn points (as long as they arent in a den, a friend of mine found a couple in dens) and it also lets you position behind them without being detected by the cat or any nearby monsters.much easier to get the initial turn like this. even if you accidentally touch a large monster in certain areas, it wont actually start a battle unless you land. its ok if the flying monster is weak, they cant hurt the barrel cats anyway lol (unless someone already has a lv 80+ monster which may be able to beat them with less barrel bombs used). i also found the spawn at the snow area one can appear very close to the warp spot (base of mt lavinia) so less time used between resets here edit: idk if poison knifes may be able to defeat them for anyone short on money or crafting supplies for barrel bombs, the cats may be immune to the poison which is the only other possible thing that could one shot them. if anyone found otherwise though feel free to mention

Hey Paradise, good video with really helpful tips. However, I think it would be better if you could put the in-game map and maybe circle the spawn locations of the cats and leave it on the video for like 5 seconds. Then it will be easier for those who want to refer to your video back again to find the spawn points. I also watched your tigrex video which helped me a lot in defeating it. However, I had to repeatedly rewind the video to the point when you voiced its weakness in its normal state and enraged state. If you could place some on screen graphic or image, it will then send home the message easily and effectively. You make great videos but I feel that these kinds of small effects will go a long way in helping your viewers and also would want to make people rewatch the videos at a later time when they forget the tips. Especially since, the game is new and not many written guides for many of the things exist yet, I think you can capitalise on it by having helpful graphics in your videos.

if you go back to the spot where you beat the legiana boss, there will be one there. You need to use paintballs to make it retreat. I had questions on this one too and found some random thing on the internet

Legiana can be found in rare caves in the tundra area and have a blue and white egg color

Like I want to go as fresh as possible it terms of gameplay, thanks for replying tho and hope you future guides at least the first weeks or so you will keep a "lower key monster" for me it's all good as long as it's not an Elden Dragon! :)
