I presume KGS is relevant in German. I prefer "Mighty Mini Mitre Chop". Proxxon can rename it and send me royalties. Saw purchased November 2019. End-mill replacement fund... / roomfortools

Loved the tip about moving the blade guard out the way!!

The guard needs a total redesign! Like so many other Proxxon machines, the reality doesn’t match the hype!

Am I the only one who thinks it’s funny that @ 15:34, the drive belt is labeled “do not bend”?

Can this saw cut 6mm or 5mm steel shaft rod? Or do I need to change the disc to metal cutting disc? Thanks for the video ..
@RoomForTools3 жыл бұрын
You would need to change to the abrasive disc for that.
@x1area51ii73 жыл бұрын
@@RoomForTools thank you. I think I need bigger disc to cut quicker. I make drive shaft for rc and need quick everyday cutter without using many disc.

how long would it take this mini chop saw to cut of a rectangular 50mm width 16mm thick solid mild steel?
@RoomForTools3 жыл бұрын
With the abrasive disc, forever. Better to use a band saw.

nice vid. you ever tried a 7.25" diamond blade to cut carbon fiber, tile etc.?

Have you tried to cut plastic e.g acrylic? Thanks for video.

Good question... will do test video in a couple days. Will test a few different plastics. Any other ideas for test materials?

Hi, great video thanks. Do you know if this will cut Damascus steel, thickness around 5mm and if it will, do you know what blade I would need?
@RoomForTools6 ай бұрын
Cut off wheel would do it. I also have a Diablo diamond blade, though it is pretty slow.

Less pressure, less bending i suppose. I think you just went to fast for the tool steel pole. Thank you for the demonstration. It helped me to decide.

Very good detailed review. however I can see when you place the metal strip, it was not level. that's the reason why the cutting was not square.

I bought 0.016x3/4" brass shim and fastened two stripes onto the turn table, on each side under the vise jaws. Almost all wiggle disappeared. I then put a 5 mm silver steel rod in the vise and measured 0.18 mm rise to the right of the recess in the table relative to a spot left to the vise. I will run the saw with this shim arrangement for a while and evaluate the result. The main complaint I have about this saw is the quite extensive blade deflection. It is only possible to obtain perpendicular cuts with soft materials. Proxxon's flexible abrasive cut-off disc can't even cut a 2 mm steel rod straight. I will try a 2 mm thick disc but not sure the motor power will be sufficient. The same remark goes for the saw blade. It cuts brass, bronze and aluminum easily, but not straight.
@RoomForTools2 жыл бұрын
As I found, though good sized chunks of aluminum with the saw blade I found to cut reasonably square.
@paullehmor9822 жыл бұрын
@@RoomForTools I cut 45x15 mm aluminum with acceptable results. There was less than 0.5 mm to mill off to get it straight. Maybe some blade deflection is inevitable with this size of machine. I bought mine primarily for easy cuts rather than precision. It cuts bronze surprisingly well. Maybe a band saw would be a good complement. But that's a bigger machine.

Can I cut stainless steel edge protection with that???

With the cut-off wheel, not with the saw blade.

The 36 toothed blade is not intended to be used with non-ferrous materials, ie. steel.
@RoomForTools3 жыл бұрын
It is intended for non-ferrous materials, ie brass, aluminum, wood. The abrasive disc is for ferrous materials.
@atastycloud3 жыл бұрын
NathanielsCAD, I think you are confused, you dont even know what is not ferrous or ferrous. steel is a ferrous metal, not non ferrous. ferrous means it contains iron and steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. carbon makes the structure of the element harder so the more carbon in an alloy, the harder it is. thats why there are low, medium, high carbon steel. mild steel is a low carbon steel. Soft metals are non ferrous like aluminium and brass or copper. Do your research before you comment please.
@NathanielsCAD3 жыл бұрын
@@RoomForTools Yes you are quite right, I made a typing error.. sorry! It looked in the video like you were using the 36T blade on the steel, but perhaps you had changed it with the cutting disc instead?
@RoomForTools3 жыл бұрын
No worries... yeh I switched to the abrasive disc, should have been more clear on that. There are videos out there of carbide tipped wood blades being used on steel, and this Proxxon one might be able to, but they are too expensive for me to find out.
@youtubehobbyists3 жыл бұрын
@@RoomForTools If you're after carbide blades for ferrous, look for the 36T blade has the anti-kickback shape, they are available on aliexpress, reasonably cheap. However, they are only good for thin sheet metal or pipes. For rods, abrasive blades are still the way to go.

Motor is shit, will smoke very fast! No protection at all i think!
@RoomForTools3 жыл бұрын
Little black potted box will have a simple regulation system that feeds the DC motor more juice as load goes up. If no motor protection is designed into the black box, then something in it will let the smoke out before the motor.
@jote22753 жыл бұрын
@@RoomForTools It would be nice if this motor would have a max current protection and some overtemperature protection. I think that none of this is there.
