If you're doing a lot of these it's worth investing in a self-healing cutting mat, a steel ruler or carpenter square, and a rotary cutter. Useful for lots of other applications too.

"Silver-gilt"? Absolutely! Gold, copper, silver, etc. I once worked in a university library, in the midst of a project to preserve many thousands of books from 1850 - 1940. Still, I've never mylar'd a book of my own, but when I get a lovely vintage hardback in that has been preserved by mylar, I appreciate those who have! Maybe brush them off toward a dust bin, or outside?

for some reason i associate gilt with gold. I'm enjoying the process of covering my books. that roll still hasn't decreased in size to a noticeable degree...thanks for watching 👀!

@@SciFiScavenger the process is called gilding because it's almost always in reference to gold leaf. The same terms apply to any metal leaf. Gold is the classic and so common because it is incorruptible, will never tarnish. Silver can darken if its pure and unprotected, and copper is a maintenance night mare. THanks for the book content, upload anything book related, we'll watch :D

Hi Jon, ok, you weren´t promising too much when you mentioned ASMR... Wouldn´t be surprised if you end up in one of the Unintenional ASMR playlists 😀 The toothbrush thing was new to me. Just learned something.

That is a really lovely copy of The Affirmation. I think that's the next of Priest's I want to read. Recently found a hardcover of Gordon R. Dickson's 'Masters of Everon' with wrap-around art on the dust jacket (plastic-wrapped too). Basically in brand new condition - 3 quid!

Hi John, thanks for this though I doubt I'll bother for my own. It does sound like it's being recorded inside an empty barge, so do decline to sit in any chairs where the base has been knocked through. ;)

My latest hack is to get a former library book for cheap - where more often than not the jacket is pristine because it's covered - and then if the actual book is in poor nick i get a "good" copy onkine for cheap that almost certainly has a bad jacket, and marry the two. Bit time intensive but saves on ebay prices if there's something you're really after

Hi Nathan - a franken-book! cunning plan, but there is the obvious flaw that you also end up with one shitty book, what do you do with that one? thanks for watching 👀!

I saw a lot of Booktubers wrapping their hard- and even softcover books, but I never felt the urge to do it as well. I’m sure it will protect the books, so that they will be longer around, but whenever I got a used book (mostly from USA) that was ex-library and wrapped in plastic, it felt like a copy and not like the original book. I know, I’m strange …

Library covers is a different beast. Thicker, a little more opaque, and often grubby from handling. Anyway, I'm enjoying gradually working my way through my shelves. Cheers Michael, thanks for watching 👀!

Good video, and i have found bagging my paperbacks or putting mylar on hardcovers not only protects the books, of course, but it kind of therapeutic and calming. It also offers another opportunity to look over a favorite book you have already read, or one you want to read. Kind of like seeing an old friend again. Weird, but i think most book people will understand. Anyway good video and good luck covering those hardcovers.

I do understand! I haven't bagged any of my paperbacks, other than those i bought pre-bagged. I dont feel so emotional about those. And most are probably not in a condition worthy of protecting anyway. Cheers Gary, thanks for watching 👀!
