I lived through this... I also lived through Andrew, Katrina, Irene, Francis, etc etc etc... Wilma was the absolute worst hurricane experience of my life. They called it a "cat 1" heading towards us.. when it hit.. it was easily cat 4-5... in my neighborhood not a single fence or screen survived.. I was almost murdered by a flying stop sign trying to get tree branches off my neighbors cars... and our power was out for almost 3 weeks after the storm. I can still remember sitting behind our town houses when the lights flickered back on around 9pm.... you'd think our neighborhood won the super bowl lol.. you could hear screams of joy a mile away.

Hurricane Milton reminds me of hurricane Wilma in 2005. Wilma made landfall in SW Florida as a Cat3. It then crossed the state, hitting the east coast as a Cat2 in Broward County, and a Cat1 in Miami Dade before it excited in the Atlantic. My townhouse that I had sold 3 weeks earlier had it's roof torn off. A little stroke of luck for me. This storm Milton is following the same scenario, except it's hitting further north in a heavily populated area as a Cat3, and they are projecting it will remain a hurricane as it cruises the state. So, if you think it won't affect you on the opposite coast, better think again. This video documents some of the damage on the east coast.

Hurricane Wilma mainly hit us with cat 1 hurricane winds and look at the damage it did in dade and broward. We have yet to have a hurricane like Andrew. Let that sink in.
