I use a pad lock in place of the pin that secures the ball into the hitch. So even when not hooked up, the latch being locked prevents the trailer from engaging to the ball so there is no way to hook up. But that's the budget way to secure, you guys really went all out which makes sense for such a nice unit.

It's actually very interesting because I've been renting different trailers and brands over the years for towing my broken cars behind an Audi A6 Quattro, the ones I've found nice were aluminum ones obviously for the weight (even though I have light cars) but also with the low deck and the wheels on the side rather than under the bed which raises it automatically. The only downside is increased width that you have to keep in mind on tight roads because if the cars goes, the trailer might not. But behind a wagon, it's way more stable and aero is much better too 👌

Suggestion. Add a battery powered GPS tracker to your trailer. These days a package can be had for like $250ish that covers the device and 3 years of service ($20 I think per year there after). You set up SMS alerts & geofencing & then hide that box on the trailer. I've used GPSAndTrack for a car before.

Hey guys, I do a lot of decals and adhesive vinyl lettering and striping. The biggest pain about removing them (in my opinion) is removing the old adhesive residue. A buddy of mine does this same type of work with applying and removing decals etc to fire department equipment and suggested I get some of this degreaser. “aero” Conquest degreaser & odor counteractant. Spray it on the residue, wait a few minutes, use a plastic scraper and remove the bulk of residue. Apply a second coat and wait approximately one minute, use some disposable shop/paper towels and it’s completely clean. The best product that I’ve ever used and makes easy work of residue removed ! The bonus is the great citrus smell. I don’t work for the manufacturer, I’m not a retailer and have no association with the product, I’m just a consumer that absolutely loves what this stuff will do. I’ve used it on painted surfaces, bare metal, many different types of plastic and have never had it damage anything. Try one can, I guarantee you’ll order more after trying for yourself. I just wish I knew about this stuff years ago lol. Keep up the great videos and if you decide to try this stuff, let me know if you agree with me.

Cross strapping is good for load centering but weakens the load capacity of the straps by a LOT. At a 90’ crossed angle, a 1000 pound load will exert 750 pounds on each strap, note this increase in force is also transferred to the trailer hitch points and the car.... can easily bend suspension or pull out bolts under heavy braking or a small accident. 👍
@robb11653 жыл бұрын
And if one of the straps fails, or comes off then the load is really free to shift.
@adultonsethunter53704 ай бұрын
Also with a higher center of gravity load, both ends cross strapped will allow the load to roll over (i.e. if both driver side straps are on top). Watched it happen to a trucker friend of mine hauling a 40,000 pound concrete building cross tied with chains and binders. If you cross one end, run the other straight.

I think you should have a locking lug nut for the trailer’s wheels. That way they can’t just take off the wheels and replace it with their own trailer wheels to bypass the boots!

Suggestions for anti-theft: 1) remove your safety chains, leaving only the anchor brackets. Inspite of whatever coupler locking device, thieves will just hook up to YOUR chains and drag trailer off to their location for serious attack on your coupler lock. 2) Remove all 4 wheels. (even easier for you as you have the tail jacks). Depressure tires and store wheels/tires in cool, dark and safe location until needed. Win-win- no UV damage to tires. Thieves will have to bring not only safety chains, but at least two tires/wheels that match your lug pattern.

@vivillager3 жыл бұрын
Shucks!? What state are you in? I'm in Texas. Bought a trailer, new, less than a year ago for about $4,900 including tax, title, registration and inspection. Open deck car hauler like the one in the video, but mine weighs about 2,600 (mine is steel and not aluminum), 20ft (including dove-tail), dual 7500 axles. If trailers go for crazy cash, I imagine that trailer thefts will be on the rise. Catalytic convert thefts are out of hand in my area since the metals inside go for big bucks. My local O'Reilly auto store had to stop delivering parts for a while after all their trucks had the cats stolen. If you got a trailer, lock it up good and tight, and stamp an identifiable mark somewhere so that if it does get stolen, and recovered, you can identify the trailer as being yours. Police won't give you back your stuff if you can't prove that it's yours. Happened to a deacon at my church. Years back his trailer was stolen, he found it, but because he couldn't prove that it was his (had no VIN, no identifiable mark other than the license plate, which was removed) police couldn't do anything about it.

Keep an eye on every spot that steel is coming in contact with the aluminum. The road salt and other deicing products Canada puts on the roads make them rust faster just like a boat trailer going in and out of saltwater.

If you are strapping through the wheels, can't the alignment be pulled out of spec? Also, it looks like it allows the suspension to load and unload over bumps since there is nothing tying the body down. Not sure if that would change how it feels to tow it though. Anyone with more knowledge care to chime in?
@kc5103 жыл бұрын
Can’t speak to the alignment but you want to strap down from the wheels/axle so the suspension can work and not strain the straps. Not much travel in the cars they tow anyway(I am generally towing off road vehicles).

I've been working on a trailer as well: 1977 Boler. Just a *little* different from your trailer. Being from the aviation industry, I'd recommend getting a drum of LPS3, if you really want to coat and protect any type of metal from car-be-gone (road salt). It's expensive, but worth it.
