Looking for a good offense against a 1-3-1 zone?

Use this play to get behind a 1-3-1 zone defense for an open layup.
Keys to success: It’s important that ‘1’ uses their dribble to create a good passing angle, you don’t want ‘4’ catching the pass while looking sideways or backwards. Make sure ‘3’ and ‘5’ know their assignment and which defender they need to screen or occupy (see the detailed breakdown in the video below).

That i NOT a 1-3-1 Zone. That is a 1-1-3 Zone. They look similar. They are not the same; A 1-3-1 would not extend out that far and the Center of the 1-3-1 is the guy at the FT Line. A 1-1-3 does extend like this and the guy at the FT Line is the 2nd Guard. This play would not work against a 1-3-1 because 1-3-1s will not Defend the Ball 10 feet away from the 3-point line like this to allow the Passing Lanes to open up. If this WERE a 1-3-1 it is the worst 1-3-1 I gave ever seen. Many teams that use 1 of these 2 Defenses use BOTH because they can disguise their coverage, we do this with a team I Coach, we are 1 of the Top Defenses in our State every year. People know us as a 1-3-1 Specialist team because when we started we did not run BOTH, now that they prepare for our 1-3-1 we run 1-1-3 too, it is very hard to tell we have changed from 1 to the other in LIVE ACTION from courtside for opposing Coaches.

Agreed - the middle of a 131 would never in any version step and guard the 3 pt line leaving the post unguarded for the tail. And if its not a 1-1-3 its just atrocious defence and not a great play
