Oh happy day! Nothing better than a day out hunting with your friends, including the four-legged ones. Reminds me of times when I'd take my Doxies down to the duck hunting refuge in off-season, so they could run around freely. Hours of running and digging in armadillo burrows, and me trying to find fossils. Not a bad a haul really, and that pink one and the carnelian nodule are both little stunners! Thanks for taking us along!

Haha yeah the hounds need some outdoor time for sure! With this lockdown they've been feeling really cooped up

Thank you when you held up your Blackstone I thought black jasper I have a piece just like it and then at the end when you show her the light goes through it I decided to try that with mine and guess what there are edges of it that are translucent so I wonder if I also have agetized petrified wood like you do🤎

The 1st agate you showed us is what I call a picture rock. If you cut it in slices, approximately 1 cm thick, then tumble or hand polish. I used to make them to hang in windows. Couldn't make them fast enough to keep up with sales. If you want to see some finished go to Dan Hurd Prospecting, what he posted on Mon. & his new claim.

Do or have you found any geodes, or thunder rocks or what ever, let me know as I live in Napier and am thinking of having a look around the mountains in the central north island, hopefully find something, let me know what you think, Pippa.
@chalcedonychris73103 жыл бұрын
some of the agates are geodes too. No thundereggs in NZ unfortunately

Would love to take my kids gemstone hunting :-) Where would you recommend for accessibility and good chances for kids to find stones their first time out?
@chalcedonychris73104 жыл бұрын
Hi Juliette, I think Birdlings Flat would be your best bet. Huge beach and thousands of agates :-) small but plentiful, perfect to train your eye and keep the kids interested

How would you polish them if they are already smooth and clean when you pick them up? I got some today and am looking to give some shine (by hand) and I have no tools! Appreciate it!

Hey sorry I only saw this now! I cut them with a tile saw and polish the flat face
