We've only caught a very few larger perch this year. We typically don't target perch specifically, but we welcome the incidental larger perch we get on the paddle tails we throw for rockfish, croaker, Spanish mackerel and redfish. My sons always like a fried perch sandwich.

David, you have answered one of my lingering questions, how often do you keep your catch? I can say if I remember correctly, in your videos from previous seasons, you might have said that you were keeping your catch twice a season. My luck as of late has been horrible but I typically keep what I catch as long as it is legal. Most of our recent outings have been targeting invasives so we keep any that we catch, I do not believe in catch and release for such. I do have my personal list of keeper sizes for things as I try to keep more in the water. As for your statements, from the middle of this video, having a respectful forum where ideas and questions can be exchanged without fear of disparaging comments, names, or other negative remarks is refreshing. I enjoy your videos and watch them with my kids as your videos are family friendly in my opinion. My kids are 11 and 10, I do what i can to keep them away from negativity on the TV as much as possible but as stated before I use your videos as teaching lessons. We went out to the Calvert side of the Benedict Bridge today, (finally caught a blue catfish on the falling tide in the morning) and my kids were watching this video on the way to go fishing today and your technique and lure used was our topic of discussion after finishing the video. Your previous season videos of fishing the other ponds at Myrtle Grove were replayed yesterday morning so my daughter could understand why I didn't want to shore fish there. We wound up at Gilbert Run and didn't have much luck yesterday. Thank you for another entertaining video!

Love the videos! I enjoy the tips as well. As a fellow southern marylander, I like to see options to take the kayak out and try my luck

Right on! One of the reasons I started the channel was to let people know how good we have it around here when it comes to fishing. There are loads of place I haven't even visited yet. But hope to get there sometime.

Great vid again! Curious how far out the pax u go or do u stay close to shore.. im new to kayak fishing and your vids have been very useful.. also, what’s your rod n reel setup? Perhaps I’ll run into you on the cove
@redlightshipsАй бұрын
Fish seem to like structure and there isn't a whole lot of it out there. It seems like it is one large flat, with small variations in depth. I'm sure that there are oyster beds out there but I haven't found them. That's why I stay closer to the shoreline, figuring that they may be trying ambush bait in the shallow water. I also don't have to worry about power boats as much close to shore. My rod is a 7 ft fast action Penn Squadron with a size 2500 spinning reel by Shimano. I have 10 lb braid with a leader of 10 to 12 lb mono tied to a. jig usually.

I haven't been catching as many perch this year as I normally do. I usually catch quite a few while trolling for rockfish & occasionally I jig for perch. Do you have a favorite color of soft plastic for perch? I usually do best with white & electric chicken.
@redlightshipsАй бұрын
Depends on the water color for me, usually I use a green or white grub or swim bait. I really like the "Christmas tree" color of the Yum 2 " grub. But if the water is sort of mocha colored I like to add a small spinner or under spin for some vibrations to attract them.
