Great video and I’m not surprised about both the material quality and construction quality. Even higher end and department stores have sooo many more polyester items and it’s very disappointing. I now kick myself for doing away with items I donated over the years; blame lack of closet and storage space for some of that. 😕

Polyester/cotton is a core of polyester wrapped in cotton. Thread that is 100% polyester can be sewn at high speed. But it does not shrink. Thus the cotton will shrink but the polyester will not. Why garments pucker at the stitching even if not machine dried….but especially if machine dried. Oh you can iron plackets flat but the heat needed will burn the polyester threads. Learned this the hard way when ironing white 100% cotton dress shirt. No hiding blackened button holes, etc.

My feeling on Target clothes - of which I have a fair amount - is that I much prefer their spring/summer to their winter/fall. Their warm weather clothes tend to be cotton, linen, viscose, or a blend thereof. I swear by their cotton dresses, jeans and linen blend skirts/blazers. I like their linen blazers, though I prefer old navy for the price point. But for the fall/winter, I just can’t get past all the acrylic/poly and prefer to look somewhere like Uniqlo or Banana Republic. I do remember when Target actually sold leather shoes (I had some sandals from there that I just wore absolutely into the ground), but sadly now everything is made of plastic.

Universal Threads is probably the best brand in Target. I don't usually buy clothes there. Kids clothes yes. Target is good for socks and household goods. I would say 80-85% of my clothes are thrift especially because I love vintage. And from time to time, I will find a designer brand for cheap. Found a Valentino fop for $9 and a dead stock men's Christian Dior top for $38. Thrifting is getting harder because everybody is looking for vintage.

Great video! Very informational. I always thought the Levi’s at target were the ones they made for target for some reason, they seemed cheap quality.

A little late, just found your channel! I buy universal thread the most at target they have more cotton and high cotton blends.

I just bought the (100% cotton) cardigans in cream, and black-which honestly was SO hard to spend, because I am also an avid thrifter. However, I’ve been much more mindful on choosing staples in natural fibers, so I figured it’s win in the long run. ❤

Wow , I worked at Target in Style and you are spot on . I have actually watched clothes , come in , displayed and within a week they look worn and shabby . Shoppers feel the need to touch even if they don’t intend to purchase . Within a week , between people trying on . Some items just can’t handle it and go to salvage . The look beat. I use to call them disposable cloth . I have seen hangers put a hole in sweaters that were just hung for a few days . Such good advice . I have purchased sweaters and tops if I really love it . Hand wash , cold water , flat dry . That is the only way it will last , maybe a year if I’m lucky . Good info 👍🏼

I thick acrylic gets a bad rap. I used to wear Designer Originals in the 70s because I like jewel neckline cardigan. They washed and machine dried beautifully. They were suppose to mimic cashmere and they did. There was a brushed acrylic in the late seventies that was horribly flammable. But it’s not so much the material but the fabrication. Another of those “stuff isn’t made like it used to be” scenarios, I guess.

I just can’t bring myself to buy Walmart or Target clothing items new. I see lots of video hauls for target and Walmart and I just think I can get better stuff at the thrift store cheaper. I will buy the occasional Walmart or target item at thrift store for super cheap. I found a Philip Lim for target navy trench coat at the thrift store yesterday. It was pretty nice - not lined though. It was too small for me and missing the belt so I didn’t get it. Great video as usual!!!! 😊

I go to their clearance rack. I've found some nice sweatshirts, cotton dresses, but on the clearances.

Interesting. For the most part I tend to agree with what was said. However I for one would never buy 100% wool, as it is itchy/uncomfortable. I think the 20% wool is good for someone like myself. As for jeans I do prefer a good 100% cotton, or even better is 98% cotton, with 2% stretchy material. Polyester is a brands why of cheapening production, by lowering quality. It breaks my lil heart to see Levi's stoop to such lows.
@jenv6846Ай бұрын
Wool does not need to be scratchy, UNLESS you have an actual allergy, which most people do not. Merino is just as soft and lower priced than cashmere. Merino is 11.5-25 microns (fiber diameter) while cashmere is 14-22 microns. They are similar in structure, etc. I wouldn’t buy from a company like quince because I have and their stuff was ITCHY, but I would buy from Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, and handmade. I’m a hand-knitter, and fiber content is super important. In a lot of situations, I would also buy a 75/25 merino/poly blend because the poly gives structure. But also I would also buy 100% merino. I’m really picky with my fiber content in clothing, I hope you’ll give wool another try!

I have 2 little A New Day dresses that I thrifted and I do like them. Nice construction with some attention to detail, but nothing else except for their No7 make up line which I like. The 90’s baggy jeans looked good as did the universal thread, but I have a hard time paying $70 for jeans because of my thrifting! I should unload 1/2 my denim and spring for those…

I have two dresses from Target that have been with me for 10-15 years. They now have sentimental value to me bc i used them A Lot back when i lived in NYC and frequently wore warm base layers +dress+ coat during cold winters

As a plus size female, I found Ava and Viv denim jeans several years ago that were surprisingly well made at a great price. I wear size 30. I was able to find 2 pair that were 100% cotton and 4 pair that were the typical stretchy blend of cotton, poly, spandex. They were on sale for $25.00 each. I wash them on cold, inside out, and hang to dry. I don’t buy any other clothes at Target, the quality and fit are generally disappointing.

Just to let you know I started thrifting with you in the back of my mind. Buy only quality. I found 2 cashmere sweaters this week. So happy!😊 Target too pricey. But I did love those levis you tried on.

I feel differently about the jeans but agree with you about everything else. I need more stretch in my jeans to actually get them on. And it's difficult when you're curvy because even if the denim will fit, it's hard af to get them on if there is little to no stretch. so then you buy a size up and eventually they fit too big. I stopped buying target clothes last year because I realized that I disliked it and would never wear them for an extended amount of time, they'd end up donated. I only go hear for quick concert outfits, that kinda thing

Is it just me or is anyone else shocked by the extreme poor fabric quality, poor styling, poor construction of Target clothes lately? I used to count on Target for 100% cotton basics, mostly summer tops, but they were decently constructed and I'd often see other clever styles. I dropped in last week to look for a nice cotton waffle knit henley for my SO for Christmas like I got him at Target 5 years ago. And of course perused around a bit for myself. Nothing but junk!!! Cheap fabric quality, ugly colors, blah styling, poor construction. What's happened to Target???
@jeanniedanfordАй бұрын
Not only quality and longevity of the garment, but my research shows that natural materials are much better for your skin microbiome and you don't really want plastic on skin as can be hormone disrupter because plastic is xenoestrogen that can lead to estrogen dominance. I know, hard to take in. Wish I knew all this years ago.
@jenv6846Ай бұрын
Yes! Except for my workout clothes, all of my clothing is natural. I allow for up to 25% poly/elastic/nylon for stabilizing purposes. But all-natural is the way to go.

I am going to weigh in here. I estimate 75% of my clothes come from Target. I am over 60, and for decades have practiced buying cotton, wool, linen and silk. I have several pairs of cotton trousers from Target, purchased 3 years ago, that I wear very often. I have great jeans that are stylish, probably 90% cotton, have been wearing those for over 5 years. Past 2 years, I found 100% linen loose pants, with pockets, and they are a summer staple. I like the price points, shop quality and am not into trends. I have a work jacket that I got probably 5-7 years ago, in some sort of poly fabric, that looks great, has structure and has served me well. For T shirts, I prefer Penny's- they have a thicker 100% cotton house brand. My taste is simple, like to be comfortable and I can up the look with unique jewelry and a silk scarf.

Does Target still sell Mossimo? I always find natural fiber clothing in the thrift stores. Rarely do I find recycled polyester -- this is a new thing in fashion.

It looks like back in 2017 they dropped Mossimo and Merona. I just started seeing more of recycled polyester also! And at target just about everything was labeled recycled polyester.

Laura thank you for the Target video. Haven't purchased from them and wont be in the future. So much poly and cheap, remember people these fabrics dont breathe, you can smell stale in these garments. Those Faux leather pieces looked sooo cheap, You did look great in the dresses, loved them but not worth a trip for outdated seasonal pieces. Thanks again.

If you are curvy, I would avoid. 100%, maybe 95% cotton, 5%. Stretch fiber, 100% does not. Work on us girls with cotton. I have two pairs of jeans same style and. Cut. 100%. Cotton are so uncomfortable.
