Hi Shell Whisperer ! Its me.... Limpet girl ! I am trying to imagine what it must be like right now to stroll along the sandy shores of Florida, where the sun kisses your skin and the gentle waves serenade your senses. As you gaze out onto the beach, you're suddenly captivated by a mesmerizing sight-the sheer abundance of stunning Florida Fighting Conchs scattered all around. Everywhere you turn, your eyes are met with an ocean of exquisite shells.They gleam with vibrant hues, displaying a kaleidoscope of pinks, oranges, and creams. The delicate ridges on their spiraling shells seem like strokes of an artist's brush, effortlessly accentuating their allure. Each Conch beckons you with its enchanting presence, teasing you with its elegance and leaving you craving more. You find yourself torn, unable to choose where to direct your attention. They're everywhere! You feel like you've stumbled into a conch convention, and they've all shown up to flaunt their beauty in unison. Its like a conch coilition ! You move on but glance back, only to find a conch parade following in your wake, as if they've adopted you as their fearless leader. They flaunt their vibrant colors...shamelessly.. hoping to catch your eye and secure a special place in your heart. It's like you're their unwitting victim of their vampirism and conch charm . Oh, the trials of being willingly lured in. You chuckle at the absurdity of the situation, realizing that you've unintentionally become the beach's hottest conch magnet.

Oh this is too good! Conch charm is a real thing - I swear!!! They talk and temp me with their shapes and colors every single beach trip. And I have the bowls, and buckets, and lanterns filled with them to prove it 🤣 This was great! ❤️

@@ittybittykittymama7582 Awwww TY IBKM.... Your turn of phrase isnt so shabby either. :) I live on the Emerald Isle now, right by a beach pounded by the Irish Sea. It is not always a safe or pleasant experience to go shelling . I make time for Sharmons videos and walk the Florida beaches with her and emerse and indulge myself shellfishly to learn AND have fun. It makes me happy to know that Sharmon isnt the only sheller here who reads my thoughts and reminds me that warmth exists beyond my frozen fingertips.

Correct on the little rough scallop. I love seeing the ghost crabs (or any live crab for that matter)! Interesting striping on that AC. A lot of times the upper wrack line is from the high tide that occurred at night. So where I shell at HI, no one has checked it if I'm early so I usually do. Have found some pretty awesome stuff up there. Lol. I went in with my mask at Lido Key last week and drifted with the current. Found a few things but ended up getting seasick! There was a huge marked off area at Lido that had hundreds of black skimmers that were nesting in it. I got to see a lot of immature ones I'd never seen before. Was really cool. Interesting color pattern on that rose murex...and you pointed that out!😊 Thanks Sharmon! xxoo

Skimmers are my favorite shore bird. They are just so goofy looking and I love the way they "skim" the water. I've gotten seasick too snorkeling!!! I have had better luck with my full face mask but I'll get a little nauseated when I snorkel sometimes. Wish I could have shelled up by you this past weekend but maybe I should wait for the shells to really come back anyway.

I also decided it's been a while since I've seen the East Coast of Florida, so I decided to drive across the state yesterday. There were plenty of shells, but not really a great variety and I wondered how hard it was going to be to make a video and all of a sudden the bucket list shells showed up for me! It was so exciting. Great video, I can't believe all the wonderful goodies you find. I keep meaning to ask you if you know or have heard anything about Gulf Breeze Cottages when you go to Sanibel. I haven't been able to find any current info. I wondered if they were going to be able to rebuild. Any info would be appreciated Thanks and keep shelling.

I just checked Gulf Breeze Cottages on google maps and seeing as it's on the water it probably took a beating. The homes seem to be easier to get put back together than the multi-unit condos and hotels. I hope they are able to open up soon. I know there are a lot of people missing their Sanibel.

@SWFBeachLife Thanks. I know it was completely destroyed except for one cottage. I just wondered if anyone you knew or maybe articles in the newspaper would have given an update on what was or is being rebuilt. Gulf Breese was such a unique and happy place. I was so thankful the lighthouse stood strong only missing the one leg. Loved you showing it.

There is no other shuttle service. You would either have to get lucky with a tour or hire a private charter. I would give the 10K island a try if you're going to be in the area. The shells there are super too!

I know those West Indian Fishing Conchs exist and I've seen them at the shell shops, but I honestly haven't dove into that subject to figure out what is what with those shells. Probably about time I do that. It's been added to "the list."

Ugggg quickest 29 minutes of my life but I sure enjoyed every last minute of it! Beautiful shells today for sure! I know the shelling slows down in the summer and I believe you said it’s the change in wind direction is that right? Also what is defined as “summer” shelling? Or when do you start seeing the shelling pick up? I am going to Fort Myers in the beginning of September and I was curious about what to expect. Not that it truly matters because any day at the beach shelling is a fabulous day!! Thank you for the walk!!
@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife Жыл бұрын
"Summer" shelling kind of starts in April when you notice the fabulous bounty that has been November through March starts to change. Yes, the NW winds help bring the cold AND the shells to our shores. This time of year it "slows" down and we don't get to see as many varieties of the shells we get to see in the winter. A good summer storm will help kick things up a big but if I don't get a hurricane this year I'll be just fine with that!

I would love to see another Venice shark tooth video. I had a lot of success at the dog park there. I had my scooper and went into the water where all the shells pile up, and picked the shells up and dumped them on the beach. I sorted it out, I was there for 4 hours and got around 200 teeth, Although this was in the winter. Love your videos!

Good evening (again) Beach Angel! This is truly an embarrassment of riches, seashell style! So glad you got so many fine shells in the early summer! Does a net help when you're surf shelling? A bargello point calico clam! How lovely it would be to make a needlepoint pattern from that shell! What a pillow that would make! Congrats on the sea glass, girl! Beautiful murexes! Great rose murex find for your bucket list, too! You're an amazing garbage collector, as well! Who'd have guessed? Wonderful trip today, Angel! Thanks for taking me along! Love from the Lost Mermaid

That FFC almost has the shape of a Hawk-wing conch, very cool. I think the high tide line is the most underrated area of the beach for shelling. I think most people just assume it's picked over when in reality most people think the same thing, and it goes unsearched. I found my largest Sanibel wentletrap to date at noon under seaweed in the high wrack line near Sanibel lighthouse, so you just never know. Can't wait to see your albino find next week! (Wild guess: is it a double albino prickly cockle?)
