Well, the fact that Yuu and Grim are not present in this part doesn't surprise me, every hallowen event, when the things get tense, they're left aside, that's why I wasn't creating expectations for these two before the event started. Actually, the fact that Yuu receive a lot of attention and was currently relevant to the plot surprised me a lot.

It makes sense jamil knows how to speak to animals since he is similar to jafar that understood parrot. Probably a spell he taught himself so he could keep track of animals around Kalim in case people sent messages via animals as a threat to kalim or merely to improve his magic. None of the boys (including Malmal) seem too worried because they know Skully wouldn't harm Yuu. So his reaction is actually not that interesting~ he gets a little annoyed and really wants to save Yuu but he's so easily distracted (he keeps fighting Leona THE WHOLE TIME) and makes no progress on the rescue lol

They always get put in rubbish situations and they have no magic, to top it all off, so they can't defend themselves through those means and they're always having to put up with Grim being impulsive and getting them in trouble. They have helped everyone at NRC at this point, yet the NRC students have done SQUAT for poor Yuu. Yuu will overblot at this point, due to all the stress and probably absorbing blot from the others.
