The gears are worn smooth so they can go faster Oh and don't worry about dropping the engine, we got hold of a salvaged one that had been ripped out of an offshore power racing boat that flipped and disintegrated at about 160mph. The throttle bodies were long gone and the exhaust headers had a huge dent where it had bounced off a reef but apart from that and a few broken conrods (sucked in a big gulp of water) it was fine.
