Modern cars: don’t run when a wire is disconnected Old ford: runs with half its engine disabled
@blackwar124 жыл бұрын
Exactly. and then there's the DEF bullshit that the government mandates whee is that runs dry, your truck will go into limp mode and shut down.
@muskokamike1274 жыл бұрын
Modern Cars: limp mode when a sensor fails that is supposed to tell you which sensor has failed. Oh and what classifies as a failure? .002 more resistance in the wire.
@Andrew-ep4kw4 жыл бұрын
@@muskokamike127 I used to have a 95 Chrysler Concorde with the 24 valve V6. That engine had 2 sensors, each on the end of a camshaft in each head, that would determine the ignition timing. If either sensor failed, the engine wouldn't start, so the whole system had 1/2 the reliability of either sensor. That was one of the many reasons we traded that car in for an 01 Acura TL, which we're still using today.

I agree...that way someone can restore back to an original museum specimen someday if they want to...including the old 6v ignition, LOL! Too bad they don't make repro cloth wiring...but out of a modern safer kind of cloth.
@MetalTrabant4 жыл бұрын
If it was up to me, I definitely wouldn't do any mod on it, except changing the wiring harness to keep out the fire hazard and bring back life to the dash. I'd even repair the factory tube AM radio to enhance the time-travel experience... this car's value is really in its originality.

I had a 53 mercury flat head in a 41 ford business coupe!! I had an Offenhauser tri-power intake manifold with three Stromberg 97's progressively linked. This was a real pain to keep adjusted properly with three carburetors. I opted to go back to a single carb polished and ported intake manifold and purchased an aluminum adapter for a small Rochester 4 barrel Carburetor (56 Chevy 265 cid.) with manual progressive linkage that used 2 barrels up until throttle was more than half open (adjustable). Worked very well!! Low idle was 2 barrel almost the same as the Ford carb, but after that came on very powerful. This was a great set-up for me. Simple Idle adj. and mixture adjustment . Wide open fuel mixture was almost perfect for max performance without too rich of a mixture for top end performance!! Good luck on your build. You are probably over powering this motor for the stock crankshaft and bearings. Also overheating is a problem for the flathead. You need really good (high flow) water pumps and the best large copper radiator you can find. Possibly an electric fan in front. The cooling is very in-efficient in these motors. Also use the best head gaskets money can buy with these higher compression heads. Most of the old timers took out the motor and gave it a complete overhaul with all of the parts replaced and matched with the horsepower rating desired!!!
@lesliedsouza40774 жыл бұрын
Yay, Flathead V8 :) I had just commented about that, coupla days back? Privileged Society, Hoovie - Never toughed it out? I do remember, the bolts on the flathead & when I got it off, the original, copper, head gasket, looked brand, spanking, shiny new. Reason for overhaul was, compression loss & oil consumption. Back in 1937 - That 85 HP engine, ran on monograde oil - No filter - Only, oil pick-up screen... Skull, distributor, keyed to the front of the nylon, helical, camshaft drive gear... Offenhauser & Edelbrock came to be known, decades later... There was a water pump on each bank - Integral with the engine mounts... Mechanical, cable brakes... Vacuum wiper... Vapour lock, fuel pump - Fixed by wet rag, atop? Safety of steel - From Pedal to Wheel? Any Colour - So long as it's Black?... Rust & Bullet Proof Vanadium steel, body... Transverse, leaf springs/ Friction, shock absorbers… Good Ol' Henry :)
