3 quarts in 1300 miles is actually a lot of oil consumption, even for a 1959 (65 years old). Cars from the 50's did tend to burn (and leak) more oil than cars from the 70's and newer - but we are talking typically less than 1 quart per 1000 miles range, not 2.5 quarts per 1000 miles. I do agree, if it was mine, other than checking the ignition timing, fixing easy to fix oil leaks, and checking whatever it has for a crankcase ventilation (PCVs were just starting to be used in '59), I would just drive it and regularly check and add oil...
@OneOut1Ай бұрын
if they change the oil that might reduce consumption. Old oil burns no matter how much new oil you add.

It wasn't until Toyota hit the USA that car companies were forced to use good metal in the engines. American cars were designed to wear out before 100,000. And frames were made of soft metal to ride quiet, and rarely lasted more than 10 years on road salt areas or seaside.
@randomvideosn0whereАй бұрын
My old 03 WRX went through fluids. Every time I filled the gas I would dump in a quart of oil, 1/2 gallon of coolant, and check the power steering level. At least the brakes didn't leak!
@davidblalock9945Ай бұрын
The push button transmission selector is vacuum operated. If you have a slight vacuum leak, reving the engine will generate a spike in manifold vacuum enabling the shift. If it’s only on that selection, then the selector is obviously the issue.
@patrickradcliffe3837Ай бұрын
I believe this one is cable acutated the Edsel was electric.
@Epro95Ай бұрын
Engine vacuum is higher at idle, so this isn't likely. Also, A quick google shows a shift linkage available for purchase. I can't find anything indicating it's operated by vacuum.
@Flies2FLLАй бұрын
I wonder if lubing up the linkage would help. Revving the engine causes a small amount of vibration that allows the linkage to slip into place.
@MattAstraGSiАй бұрын
The push buttons are cable actuated. These need to be adjusted where the cable goes into trans. Need to drop the trans oil pan for that on the earlier ones, later ones got an adjustment wheel. These torqueflites are pretty good
@3613jeremyАй бұрын
I was thinking the same thing with the vacuum I would have never guessed the buttons would be cable operated

It does a pretty great job of holding the car in place AFTER you've come to a complete stop where you want to park it, shifted into Neutral, and shut everything down so you can get out of it without it rolling away because there's no such thing as a Park position in this one. Anyway, the car still has conventional drum brakes at each corner that are 100% responsible for doing a so-so job of stopping the car. And why did this "wizard" not only NOT correct him, but he actually doubled down on it??? There were a couple more things that were iffy at best, but I ain't watchin' it again to try to find them.
