Thanks Joel for taking my call the other day. I purchased the Catrike Dumont with the 48v Falco E-assist, a Patterson Metropolis crank transmission and he even included a 2 trike Apaca hitch rack. At first, I was so skeptical about this setup, because I have 3 electric tikes to compare to. One 48v 1500w rear hub 17ah, one 48V 1000w+ Bafang BBS02 20ah and a 52v 1500w+ Bafang BBSHD 17ah. I just finished a 20 mile ride with moderate hills and this thing was the best experience I’ve had riding so far. The Falco’s motor torque and speed sensing is amazing. It is perfectly paired with the Patterson Metropolis front crank transmission. I was pleasantly surprised by the range because it only has a 14ah battery. I could hit 30+mph on the flats, which blew my mind. This Falco setup operates on bluetooth via App on my iphone alone, no separate display, + - toggle or throttle. I am so happy with this setup. Thanks again Joel and keep up with the video and the good work!

Glad you love your Falco powered trike. I have a Schlumpf High Speed Drive on my trike. Simular to what you have. I agree a geared crankset is a great pairing with a Falco hub motor! After you tweak your eAssist levels to suit your personal preferences, I recommend you remove the "Wireless Module" and replace it with a "2021 Wired Console." The easy to use full display and buttons make the Falco an even more responsive electric bike system! You only really need the Wireless Module to customize your motor settings once. Adding a Throttle is also a great idea!

@@joellikecatcher3480 Thanks for your recommendations. I am considering the throttle and the wired setup as well. I’ve done research on the Schlumpf drive and really wanted one and was really hoping that this one was a Schlumpf high speed drive. But it wasn’t. I was skeptical about the Patterson drive because it was less expensive and it is an equivalent to a 28t and 45t crank. It feels like a good fit to me. I am pleasantly surprised and was pretty impress with it. I like cruising at the highest gears on this Patterson drive. I’ve also seen someone change the main sprocket for a larger one. I have never tried a Schlumpf high speed drive. Looks like higher gears and double the price of the Patterson.

Hi Joel, glad I found your channel! Just starting with recumbent trikes, and thought there would be more available in S. Florida. Will be in touch!

SFL recumbent riders are scattered about the area. I know of only 3 others within 10 miles of my home.

Hi Joel. Looking at buying my 1st trike perhaps a used 2018 Cat Expedition in great condition asking price is $1500. Ultimately which ever recumbent I end up getting would require installing a decent motor on it for being 6’ 155lbs and attain to 30-40mph

Most US communities outlaw E-bikes over 20MPH. Do any faster may require a licence and state inspection.

I considered Falco when I first started looking into electrifying our Catrike 559 so my wife could keep up with me on rides. It looked like Falco may be out of business. Falco never seems to come up in bike conversion kit searches. Then up pops this video touting Falco. Even Falco's website seems suspect. The catalog pdf is from 2020. Are they still alive and well? Must it be a dealer install to get the 5 year warranty? Until seeing this video, I was leaning towards a CYC Photon mid drive as it has built in torque sensor for more natural feel and a little easier on the drive train than Bafang. Catrike's Bosch kit seems a overpriced option for what you get in terms of power and battery with no options.

Falco is still in business and shipping product. I am still one of their dealer/installers too. The CYC Photon mid drive is a very powerfull stsrem, designed for mountain bikes. Perhaps too poswefull for a recumbent trike!
