My mother lives on Puerto Rico. She has a patchouli shrub in her backyard and tells me that she remembers seeing it grow wildly around the island when she was growing. The same for vetiver which grows near river banks. So these two practically grow anywhere in tropical climates.

This is very informative for all the perfume enthusiast like myself. Perfume is something subjective and for me Chanel does an amazing job with patchouli, more specifically their perfumer Polge. He is an artist when using it and the best example like your pointed out is Coco Mademoiselle. It smells refined and in combination with the citrus and florals it gives the perfume this kind of cloud that is patchouli and the other notes are inside of that cloud, is amazing. Chanel has other perfumes made by Polge in which you can smell this, but his trick in my opinion is when we combine them with citrus and it makes patchouli fuzzy. Other Chanel I have smell it also is Blue and in the new Les Eaux like Deauville.

Ashley's back and didn't forget about us after getting her new and important job oversees B) Knowing your love for patchouli and your Aftelier connection, I have their patchouli body oil on my hand now. Sort of an old fashioned, masculine clean and woody type. quite strong, too for a body lotion.

Yey Indonesia, My country... Two month ago my sister found out about patchouli and become so courios about it and finally we brought it on line, it costs 25.000 or less than 2$ each bag plant.. We were so exiciting.. It grow very easy, now we have more patchouli plant from perogation.. One of the farfume i use is Clinic Elixier from clinic, i believe the Top note of it was the plant.. There is place in Indonesia where people grow Patchouli abundanty call Gunung Slamet are, there one plant bag costs ony 1500 IDR or 10 cent. Btw you can maybe try make mojito with patchouli instead mint leave just kidding..

Great video! I think Ashley nailed it on where the association of BO and patchouli comes from. I came to the same realization one day when I smelled an expensive Clive Christian fragrance (no patchouli) that the scent memory attached was that of the unwashed folks riding the trolley during a heatwave in Europe, where they attempted to cover their BO with expensive perfumes.

@lochnessamonster19124 жыл бұрын
I have some Indonesian oils. All are old school, iron distilled and are a deep, almost black color. Some even stain my skin when I apply them. They are the dirtiest, dingiest patchouli oils I have and are super earthy, and the strongest smelling of all right up front, almost off-putting, yet leave the most beautiful and enduring dry down. Lasts forever. You have to really love patchouli to get into them, the Indonesian oils are not for the faint of heart!

Patchouli by Santa Maria Novella - definitely the best patchouli in the world of scent. Smells like spicy, resinous, crushed dark brown and golden leaves from the forest soil, sensuously elegant eau de cologne that never "goes over to the hippy side".

To answer the question about finding patchouli to grow in your own garden, people sell seeds and cuttings on Etsy. As they warned, the seeds are slow to germinate. I never got a single seed to germinate this summer, so I resorted to ordering 6 cuttings (since any fewer was going to cost the same for shipping). I transplanted each into their own pot and keep them in the garden partially shaded by other plants, as was suggested. It wants to be in a sunny location, but with that sun partly filtered through neighboring plants.
@juliekadams3 жыл бұрын
I like patchouli because it already smells like the most exotic mix. It doesn't seem like a single, simple scent, and it doesn't really need to be a note in some other scent, in my opinion. It owns the patent on its own proprietary blend, LOL.

Aside from patchouli, Indonesia is also known for clove and nutmeg. I'm from the Philippines, just north of Indonesia and we also grow patchouli. In my region specifically, patchouli is grown for hair. The first bath of babies here are always with patchouli that's why the scent of this herb is always associated with infancy and not with the 60s.

Excellent. It's my first time viewing this channel, and TBH I'm not particularly interested in fragrances... I just happened to stumble upon this because I got curious about patchouli (which traces back to a 45 year obsession with trying to figure out my dad's scent, from my childhood memories) however I found you and your guest to be wonderful. You were both so incredibly knowledgeable. (I kind of fell in love with her smile. Absolutely infectious; I literally caught myself just dumbly sitting here and smiling at the screen, as I listened - lol). Anyway, great channel. I'm actually subscribing now! I said I'm not particularly interested in fragrances, but I do like to learn, and I did enjoy listening... so who knows?
