Same here. Spend hours and hours and hours with ProTracker on the Amiga, and can still remember most of the patterns almost 35 years later at age 48. Also, still have the modules on disk and occasionally use XMPlayer to get nostalgic. Am this close to get a couple of Moog DFAMs to start producing again.

Thank you for doing the thing I wanted to do in 1998/99. You have no idea how many people I trued to convince that we needed to be making big panels of buttons and knobs that just sent MIDI. Nobody believed me. ReBirth & Acid 2.0 were the drives for that… Fast forward to 2008 and the SMT place I work at gets the gig to make Open Labs workstations. Imagine my excitement! It only took a decade. You really should find you an OL for the museum.

Oh man, the keyboard you pulled out at 2:00 was the first keyboard I ever got! My parents got it for my when I was 12, and I used it along with Reason 2.5 and ReBirth! I would have been so psyched to have this interface. I remember setting up jam sessions with a ton of tracks in Reason and using mute buttons and volume fades to jam. I always wondered if getting a MIDI capable mixer so I could control the software directly would make that more fun. You basically answered the question!

Helped my maths teacher assemble bits of an analogue synth (Might have been a Hobby Electronics one) and learned about sampling on a BBC Micro with a Ferranti ADC chip on a breadboard. Used to tit about with the synth packages, samplers and trackers on Amiga a few years later (just recently got a sampler and MIDI interface for a 'miggy 500 again), had a Roland D and SC110 (ack, U110, not SC) at one point and absolutely loved it but never really 'did' anything other than mess about for myself. Your channel is my favorite synthesizer channel on KZbin. And its not that I care so much for synthesizers of synth music or the sound. I do love that too. But its so much more about the inspirational passion of the dude whose channel this is. I recognize the passion cause that's how I feel about things I am passionate about. And I can relate to that, so much better and I have come to known about myself is that I need that. People with passion about what they do, what they love.

OMG! I JUST found my bootlegged copy of Rebirth that I found on my last trip home and brought back today! Synchronous! I used the program for simple rhythm loops and things for my demos back in 2006 or so. It’s great but using the computer interface for live is a challenge. I think the designers thought that composers would sit down and fill the banks with loops and then take their laptops and then DJ with the stems they had created. This has been a dream of mine for twenty years and it is marvelous to see. The only thing is that would it be possible to have a shift key for the different banks so that you only needed 12 buttons instead of 48? This design is simpler though so I can see why you went with that. Great job! Fantastic!

@@subs4794 Yeah, It wasn't 100% for Rebirth per se, but it was heavily marketed toward use with Steinberg programs, mainly Rebirth RB338. It did come with a really good quality vinyl Steinberg/Rebirth overlay, whereas the other overlays were paper. The original had 3 different modes. I've got the later v2 model that has 6. Mode 1: Roland GS, Yamaha XG compatible sound modules. Mode 2: Creative Labs AWE32, 64, 64 Gold, Soundblaster Live! and Platinum soundcards. Mode 3: Standard MIDI Controller numbers (Continuous Controllers 1‑13). Mode 4: Roland JV1080, 2080, 1010, XP30/50/60/80. Mode 5: Standard MIDI Controller numbers (Continuous Controllers 40‑52). Mode 6: 'Classic' Mode (various Controller numbers). I just dug it out recently because it only just dawned on me that the Roland Cloud plugins I use have a MIDI learn function. You just Right-click a control knob on the screen, select Learn, then wiggle a knob on the Phat-boy, and bobs yer uncle.

Very cool! Real knobs make all the difference. I built a custom midi controller that matches the layout of the Moog Model D for iPad - so much better for live performance!

I still have a CD with renders of the demo tracks. I used to play that in my car all the time.
