Over the years of watching sewing videos, I have found that I watch the ones where I know that I will see the garment styled various ways. My mother taught us all to sew. I started learning hand stitches and embroidery at 4 years old. By the time I was a teenager, I would read the directions and recommendations on the pattern, but by then I choose how I would use it and put it together to reflect me. So, what I love about your videos is that you show exactly what the pattern offers and then you explain how you are going to use it. After that (to me) the highlight is seeing the garment on a real person and in doing that you include how it fits into your life and your closet through how you style it. Also, thank you for taking your time, pointing out various features and not rushing through as you model the garment. Touché! Love, love, love your videos!!!

I like to see styling as part of a sewing vlog. I find for myself I can end up with random things that I am not sure what to do with. I want to start trying to make more 'outfits' rather than one off pieces because sometimes one off pieces can end up being hard to style with existing pieces.

That looked absolutely amazing! That royal blue skirt with the black is especially eye catching. Making a skirt & top from the same fabric is always the start if a capsule wardrobe for me. Everything just flows out from those two pieces. I love seeing your look books! Love the long skirt on you! You’re lovely and tall and, generally-speaking, skirts just below the knee and longer look really good on tall women. I know you’ve said you prefer your skirt lengths above your knees, but I’d love to see just one skirt on you that ends just below your knee caps. Is that a possibility…maybe?? I also enjoy the styling section in your videos, because it makes the videos more interesting to look at and gives me ideas how to pair colors of accessories and styles. I like to look at the whole picture. One constructive criticism I have is about your hair. Though very nice, it is always loose and curly during all the years that I remember watching your videos. I think it would be nice to wear it sometimes differently to complement what you are wearing (ponytail with a sporty outfit, updo with an elegant dress, straight, half updo, hairband, and so on). Anyway, just an idea to change things up. 😊

About my hair, I wear it like I do in real life. It’s curly. I spent years using the straightening iron and absolutely ruined and burnt my hair. I’ve left it natural for over 4 years now (no heat) and it’s super healthy and not falling. I can’t wear it up because I’m prone to migraines and my scalp is very sensitive to the weight of my hair or anything put on there to hold it. The only way I can hold it is with a loose braid and I look awful lol. That’s my explanation about my hair. There’s always a reason and I really am not willing to do things with it.

I prefer your focus on the details in the sewing segments over styling. Your links to previous sewing videos are also very helpful for the viewer to feel confident to sew the garment. That said, wrapping up the video with a few mix and match styling ideas sells the patterns. I say 85%+ sewing with no more than 15% styling.
