Where to find London's Roman Wall (The Walk and the Hidden Bits!)

London was once surrounded by a 20ft high wall, built almost 2,000 years ago by the Romans.
Amazingly, large chunks of it remain. Some are obvious - like right outside Tower Hill Tube Station. However there are also hidden sections which most people don't know about - like the piece under an office by St Paul's, or in a car park!
In this video I'm tracing the visible remains of London's Roman Wall from Tower Hill to Ludgate, sharing the best places to find this incredible bit of history.
You can can follow the route on the google map here; www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edi...

OMG the remnant of Roman wall in car bay 52 in a city parking lot - that just blew my mind LOVE the Brits commitment to maintaining this history. We Aussies (such parvenous though, sheesh ... we're kids compared to the Brits) we'd have bulldozed it and that's that. Onya!

I love your video i took a pic with that statue of trajan one thing i noticed with my pics then and your now is the wall back then was longer it was close to the roadway but looked like construction was going on as someone drilled a big hole into the wall i took home a small piece that was on the ground. Upset that anyone would destroy something so rare. Thank you for the video!

The bulk of the ragstone was quarried just south of Maidstone which then was a tiny settlement. When my late father was a teenager there was a cider house on the site. The owner turned a blind eye to the licensing laws, so it was a popular place to drink on a Saturday afternoon.

Dear me. The first walking tour I ever took in London was given by the now long gone "Off Beat Walking Tours" company, which I'm going to bet is partially responsible for the whole Blue Badge machinery. Other tour guides referred to them as "cowboys", but my they gave great tours, such as "The Loos of London". The one I took was of Southwark, including Southwark Cathedral, the site of the Old Globe, and Clink Street. The guide pointed to one section of wall surrounding the old churchyard, and claimed it was part of the Roman Wall. Certainly the churchyard was far, far below street level today. The fact that you didn't include this section of wall indicates to me that the claim was likely bogus. Certainly it's a very old section of wall. Must have been medieval.

Although not in England the best preserved Roman city wall in the country surrounds the small village of Caerwent in South Wales whereas the best (and only) surviving Roman gateway is the Newport Arch in Lincoln (there is one in Colchester too but that was originally a triumphal arch that was later adapted into a city gate)

I know it isn't part of the Roman Wall, but some time it might be interesting for you to cover the Temple of Mithras. For a while I worked at the Legal and General building in Queen Victoria Street, which at that time had the remains of the Temple in its grounds, but I think since then it has been relocated to its original site in Walbrook.
