Oh man, the Loom acquisition is like a startup fairytale! They definitely pulled off a "rags to riches" kind of story with their journey from a small startup to a multi-million dollar acquisition by Atlassian. But, it wasn't all smooth sailing - they had to pivot their strategy and adapt to the market. That's a great lesson for any startup founder - be ready to pivot when needed and stay agile in the ever-evolving tech landscape. Also, let's not forget the power of perseverance - 8 years of hard work is no joke! This story should give any aspiring entrepreneur a major boost of motivation.

I can't imagine trying to find a new problem to solve / pursue as a business after a nearly $1B acquisition. When my first startup was acquired for nearly 1000x less, I had a surprisingly hard time wanting to pursue another idea as the bar for success suddenly felt a lot higher.
@jean-baptistebonaparte2200 Жыл бұрын
But you dont need to always pursue a bigger and bigger goal.. maybe you can just be happy creating something useful or interesting at a “lower” level and just enjoy the life and what you do. You don’t need to make another 1b sale

It's interesting how many comments here don't understand why it was sold for so much. Listen, if you make a product you better understand how/why acquisitions happen and how a company gets valued.

Sold right as Apple released Presenter Overlay, killing the need for this in top US white collar jobs. You guys can have fun marketing to Windows users from now on. Kudos to ya'll on timing!

Competition validates your product and creates a market. If you're the only one doing it, you got a problem.

Haha, talk about perfect timing! Loom really played their cards right by selling before Apple dropped that bomb. Apple really swooped in with their fancy Presenter Overlay and snatched some of Loom's market share, but I guess that's the game in the tech industry! Windows users can definitely still benefit from Loom's platform, but it's a bummer for the company that they can't compete with Apple in the top-tier white collar market anymore. I mean, when Apple enters the game, you know it's going to be tough competition!

This stuff should be open source, they create the likes of a school project and drum it up as revolutionary to line their pockets. There's no reason people's careers and livelihoods need to depend on the technical insights of folks like this

Apple now includes this feature in every Mac, and eventually every iPhone too. Invisible hand of the market should totes cannibalize this

As a user of loom, because it's quick and easy to record screen wkth your face on screen, after it's finished, you get a link that anyone who clicks on can watch the vid. It's not a video editing tool.
