Sorry for the dumb question but what is the function of that looper? Wouldn't it be possible to produce the same sound without it?

It is a good question! The looper here is used for two reasons: 1) the RC-505 has a very versatile FX-section. I use the panning delay, filters and the granular delay (3:45) for more sound alteration. 2) In the looper I can turn on/off the single recorded tracks more easily.
