If i heard this as an album without the video or any background info, i would have assumed you'd spent a billion hours in a DAW microediting and laboriously sequencing every tiny aspect of your magnum opus to within an inch of its life (and your sanity)... but no you've bloody done it all as a live performance using a single FM groovebox.. and with some very cool commentary to guide us through your thoughts. You know it, and now we know it... but what an epic achievement mate. Incredible

Honestly, besides the big ass brain in Cuckoo's head, the Elektron sequencer is amazing for doing things that would be kind of a pain in the ass with a DAW. I've had my Model:Samples for about a week and I already find certain things much faster and more intuitive than FL Studio, and I've been using that for 10 years. Elektron outdid themselves with these two That said, Cuckoo definitely runs with that and takes it way beyond what I thought it was capable of. Really great set here

A lot of people try to fight against the toyish FM sounds of the cycles to make something that's supposed to sound more professional and sophisticated. But you, on the contrary, you fully embrace its distinct sound engine and make something magical and fun with it. It's an absolute bliss to hear ! It almost sound like a Megadrive (Genesis) sometimes and it's easy to tell that you truly love FM synthesis.
@truecuckoo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I really do love FM synthesis, guilty as charged. 🤣 The megadrive is an excellent example of how flexible FM synthesis can be. Musicians had to use only FM, and of course it could play samples, and it had those older sound chips as well from the master system, but largely it was FM synthesis only. So in many ways this is like composing game music for the megaDrive, just in a much more simplified sound engine environment. The base and kick sounds you can get out of the model cycles is sick.
@DrLaemmerbein3 жыл бұрын
It's just that the Model:Cycles defaults to a certain sound but the great thing is that it's really not that hard to make it sound quite different. Laid back, toned down or more serious, if you will. Well, in the end it will always sound like the Model:Cycles ;) But it still has a pretty good range!

I am also doing an album of ringtones! I did one previously on the minilogue, which worked out so well because of how its volca-style sequencer was integrated. I'm doing another set now on the Roland JDxA which I adore sonically but the sequencer isn't all intuitive & interactive like minilogue was. These you've made on the Model : Cycles absolutely have that ringtone essence I'm also shooting for! I've got my eye on the Model : Cycles as well.
